Job Description:
Works with the Athletic Director in scheduling facilities for practices and competitions. Assigns duties to an assistant coach(es) and other staff as necessary. Maintain a current compliant status for attending and participating in all required District training including Title X, Title IX, Unlawful Discrimination, Technology Use, California Ed Code, Orange Empire Conference Bylaws, and 3C2A Bylaws. Facilitates Supervision of Events and Game Management, facility rentals, facility scheduling, outside usage oversight, equipment room and or sports information duties, transportation, officials scheduling for athletic events, camps and clinics, planning and execution of special projects and events as assigned.

Conducts self as a personal example of positive demeanor for the athletes and represents the College in a favorable manner. Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the sport. Assesses player’s skills and assigns team positions. Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.

Complies with the academic policies established by the NOCCCD and the CCCAA and maintain an environment for all student athletes in the Program in which promotes student success reflected by good attendance, good participation, good student standing, skill improvement, another success related indicators as determined by the Athletic Director.

Assigned as Campus Security Authority (“CSA”) as defined by the Clery Act. As a CSA, Head Coach will comply with NOCCCD policies on the reporting of crime statistics and related information to the official designated by the College for the purposes of Clery Act reporting. Responsible as defined by NOCCCD policies on Sexual Harassment and Sexual Misconduct, as a Responsible Employee, Head Coach shall report all incidents of sexual misconduct (including sexual harassment and sexual violence) and other inappropriate sexual conduct to the Campus and NOCCCD Title IX Coordinator or other appropriate designee as required by NOCCCD policy.

Coaches and directs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport. Observes players during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement. Determines game strategy based on the team’s capabilities. Understands, agrees, and implements final medical decision regarding student-athlete participation in organized practices and/or competitions shall be made by the athletic training staff under the direction and consultation of team physician.

Recruits new athletes for the team; Ensures the appropriate implementation of sporting techniques; mentors players to develop sportsmanship and respect for the game. Motivates players to improve and develop. Assigned to students as life coaches and to the academic athlete center to provide general guidance, motivation, advising, mentoring, and tutoring for the purpose of academic and athletic success.

Recommends to the Athletic Director regarding the employment and salary of all assistant coaches and support staff; has authority and responsibility to make decisions as to the hiring, continued employment, job titles, compensation and discharge of assistant coaches and all other personnel employed exclusively for the Program as approved and authorized by the Athletic Director and/or the Dean of the Division. All such decisions shall be made in consultation with the Athletic Director and are subject to the prior approval of the Athletic Director and will be in accordance with the policies and procedures of the NOCCCD’s guidelines. Assign duties and supervise the performance of the assistant coaches and all other personnel assigned to the Program; plan, supervise, and coordinate the recruitment and training of student athletes for the Program.

Establishes and maintains standards of athlete behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times. Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury. Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met; and encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard. Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student athletes.

Follows State, conference, and District regulations governing the athletic program. Models sportsman-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators. Agrees to represent the College in an honorable and ethical manner at all times.

Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport by communicating with the news media, booster clubs, service clubs, and other organizations. Works with the Athletic Director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season. Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep assemblies. Responsible for the design and implantation of fundraising activities for the assigned sport or other sports in the division at the College of assignment. Cooperates fully with the NOCCCD in promoting the Program, the NOCCCD’s Athletic Programs and Services, the NOCCCD, the NOCCCD’s Alumni Association, and other NOCCCD-affiliated organizations. Such cooperation includes, but is not limited to, attendance and participation at meetings, events, and media outlets of the NOCCCD and NOCCCD-affiliated organization.

Adheres to the NOCCCD’s Athletics department policy and procedures and shall have team rules which must be approved by the Athletic Director prior to implementation or enforcement. Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records. Maintains accurate team records as required, which could include but not be limited to team lists, score books, statistics, etc.; Maintains, tracks inventory, and facilitates ordering all equipment needed for all phases of a designated sport program.

Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. Organizes and coordinates all phases of the assigned sports program including in-season, off-season, and summer. Coaches student athletes to perform sound, safe fundamental techniques of a designated sport throughout the season providing coaching feedback during competitions; Supervises student athletes during practices, at home and away games.

Responsible to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the Program and to monitor the activities regarding compliance of all assistant coaches and other administrators involved with the Program who report directly or indirectly to Head Coach.

Assists the Athletic Director with determining equipment needs, purchasing, and payment of equipment for the Sport(s) program(s).

Responsible to follow all applicable local, State, Federal, District and CCCAA governing rules and regulations at all times during the term of this agreement.

Provides Student Services, and Compliance support.

Learn and apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary to perform duties in an efficient, organized, and timely manner.

Participates in District/College efforts to increase the diversity of faculty and staff and to address student achievement gaps; active assistance in the creation of a welcoming and inclusive work and educational environment; attend and participate in diversity, equity and inclusion trainings and events.

Perform related duties and responsibilities that are consistent with their position related to student-athlete success and general athletic program operations as assigned from by the Athletics Director.

Head Coach agrees to know, recognize, and comply in all respects with CCCAA and other Governing Athletics Rules and NOCCCD Rules. In the performance of all their duties and obligations under this Agreement, Head Coach will abide by and comply with all Governing Athletics Rules and NOCCCD Rules.

Primary Purpose:
Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Head Coach is responsible for the planning, organization, administration of all non-academic aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program, and adhering to the District Athletic Department Philosophy. The duties may be modified to meet the needs of the Athletic Department, College, and Program of Assignment.

Working Relationships:
The Head Coach maintains frequent contact with students, athletes, faculty, staff, management, the community, various departments and outside agencies.

Special Requirements:
This position requires a valid driver’s license. Incumbent may be required to travel off site for business reasons. All employees driving personal, leased, or district-owned vehicles for District related activities must certify possession of a valid Driver’s License. Employees must certify that personal vehicles are covered by automobile insurance as required by California law. (Administrative Procedure 7400, Section 4.0)

If selected as a finalist, a current three (3) year DMV Driving Record will be requested and reviewed by the District.
CPR and AED Certified within four (4) weeks of employment. First Aid and CPR Certification issued by the American Red Cross or equivalent. If selected as a finalist and/or given an offer of employment for this position, you will be required to provide proof of valid First Aid and CPR certification. We will contact the finalist to obtain this required documentation at that phase of the recruitment.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, and two (2) years of professional experience directly related to Head Coach OR an associate degree, with six years of professional experience directly related to Head Coach, OR the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Subject to exposure to hazard conditions such as dust, dirt, pollen, depending upon designated sport. Possible work around heavy equipment. Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens. Subject to working and dealing with disturbed, angry, and emotionally distraught individuals. Subject to mild and severe sport injuries.

Salary Range: $66,000 Annually
