Department/Organization: 820701 - UREC Club - Administration
Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm; some evenings, weekends, & holidays.
Job Summary: The UREC Sport Programs Coordinator provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of University Recreation Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs.
Additional Department Summary: Provides professional management and supervision for the daily operations of Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs for University Recreation, which supports educational and recreational opportunities for the University community. Sport Programs is a integral unit in the Department of University Recreation and Division of Student Life. Contributes to the success of University Recreation by providing structured programming options during evening hours and weekends, and opportunities for students to build community while playing the sports they love, learn experientially, and encourages healthy lifestyles. Reports to and works closely with the Assistant Director for Sport Programs. Manages comprehensive Intramural Sports and Sport Club programs. Hires, trains, and supervises 50-75 student employees. Manages sports officials' training and performance evaluations, and scheduling activities. Serves as a liaison for several Sport Clubs. Works with the Assistant Director to determine a suitable work schedule to ensure appropriate coverage of all events, including evening games and weekend activities, in order to enhance professional supervision during Sport Program activities. Holds shared responsibilities in managing administrative tasks such as payroll, budgeting and accounting, and has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures. Completes required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training. Collaborates with the Assistant Director and fellow Coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate Sport Programs. Works to maximize student experiences through quality programs and customer experiences. Fosters an environment for all students through both programs and services offered. Assists in providing opportunities that have a positive impact on the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of UA students through collaboration and partnerships with other divisional and campus units
Hours vary to include some nights and weekends for staff training and development, events and other activities. On-call for emergencies in program area.
Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting; OR Master’s degree and one (1) year of experience in Intramural Sports and/or Sport Clubs in a collegiate recreation or municipal recreation setting. Student or Graduate Assistant, Intern, or student-oriented experience will be considered. To be considered student experience, it must be detailed in the employment section on the application. Ability to work extended hours as needed.
CPR & First Aid Instructor certification required, or ability to attain within six (6) months of hire date.
Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.
Skills and Knowledge: Progressive experience, knowledge, and understanding of officiating, training officials, and applying rules of various sports. Understanding of the various needs of established and emerging Sport Clubs. Effective customer relations skills. Strong interpersonal skills. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge and skills associated with successfully managing a collegiate recreation program. Aptitude to prioritize multiple work responsibilities in time-sensitive situations, supervise and delegate work to student staff, and exercise good judgment. Capability to work effectively as an individual and as a member of a team. Comprehensive understanding of personal computers and standard software such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Demonstrates commitment to supporting all students.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and two (2) years of progressive experience leading Intramural Sports and/or Sport Club programs. Knowledge of educational theories, philosophies and application for student development. Active sports official and/or progression in officiating for various sports. Knowledge of relational/psychological theories of human behavior and applications in a leadership development.
