Job SummaryThe Albany Young Marines Summer STEM Enrichment Program with Drones is an educational initiative designed to engage young people in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through hands-on experiences with drone technology. Participants in the program will have the opportunity to learn about drone operation, programming, and applications in various fields. Through practical projects and activities, they will develop skills in problem-solving, critical thinking, and teamwork, all while exploring the exciting world of drones. Participants must be members of the Albany Young Marines.
Sponsorship is not available for this position.
ResponsibilitiesProject Assistant
The Project Assistant supports the Camp Program Director with administrative tasks, logistics, and coordination of daily activities. They assist in managing camp communications, maintaining schedules, and ensuring smooth program delivery. Additionally, they help organize materials, track attendance, and provide general support to staff and participants to enhance the overall camp experience.
Required qualifications include a master's degree in criminal justice, education, business administration, communications, or a related field is preferred,
Prior experience in administrative support, event coordination, or youth program management.
Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, with the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
Nursing Student Assistant (2)
The Nursing Student Assistant assists with the organization, storage, labeling, and documentation of camper medications under the supervision of the camp director, ensuring compliance with camp policies and healthcare regulations. They monitor campers with medical conditions such as asthma, allergies, or diabetes to ensure timely care and report concerns as needed. Additionally, they provide basic first aid, assist in responding to minor injuries and health-related concerns, and support emergency situations as directed. They also promote health and safety awareness among campers and staff while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to all medical and camp policies.
Required qualifications include current enrollment in an ASU nursing program with successful completion of coursework in nursing, first aid, or related subjects.
Strong attention to detail, communication skills, and the ability to respond calmly in medical situations are essential.
Possess CPR and First Aid certifications.
FAA Certified Drone Instructor
The Drone Instructor leads hands-on drone piloting sessions, teaching flight operations, safety protocols, and STEM principles. They instruct campers on drone technology, FAA regulations, and real-world applications while designing and overseeing flight challenges to ensure proper equipment handling and safety compliance. Additionally, they provide guidance, feedback, and troubleshooting support to enhance camper skills and engagement.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field, aviation, education, or a related discipline.
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certification is strongly recommended.
Strong communication skills, the ability to engage and instruct youth, and proficiency in drone operations and safety standards are essential.
Prior experience in drone piloting, instructional training, or youth education programs is preferred.
Writing Support Instructor
The Writing Support Instructor facilitates literacy-focused sessions to enhance reading and writing skills through STEM-related content. They engage campers in discussions and activities that promote critical thinking and comprehension, helping them develop effective communication skills in both written and verbal formats.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's or master's degree in English, education, communications, or a related field.
Strong communication skills, the ability to create engaging lesson plans, and experience integrating STEM concepts into literacy instruction are essential.
Experience in literacy instruction, tutoring, or youth education programs is preferred.

Organization
Albany State University is a four-year institution in southwest Georgia offering undergraduate and graduate liberal arts and professional degree programs, and a wide range of outreach programs to the community. Albany State University is located in Albany, a progressive city of 100,000, on a 206-acre campus featuring impressive new buildings. The school has gained a reputation as the "Unsinkable Albany State" after surviving two major floods.
Both traditional and non-traditional students make up the more than 4,000 students who attend Albany State. They come primarily from southwest and middle Georgia, Atlanta, other states in the U.S., and several foreign countries. The average student age is 24 and about 40 percent of the students live in on-campus housing.
Albany State offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs, of which the most popular majors are biology, criminal justice, computer science, middle-grades education, business administration and nursing. The University offers six advanced degrees: the master of science in criminal justice, master of public administration, master of business administration, master of science in nursing, master of education in 11 majors, and an education specialist degree. The university also offers the Board of Regents' engineering transfer program and the dual degree program in engineering with Georgia Tech.
Students at Albany State stay busy after class by participating in 59 clubs and organizations including bands, choirs, religious groups, honor societies, several major Greek and honor sororities and fraternities, and ROTC. An NCAA Division II school, Albany State's intercollegiate sports include men's football, basketball, baseball, track and field, cross-country and women's basketball, volleyball, cross-country and track and field.
A historically black institution, Albany State was founded in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute and supported by private religious organizations. It remained privately supported through 1917, when it began to receive state support and became the Georgia Normal and Agricultural College. It continued to grow and in 1932, when the Board of Regents was established, it became part of the University System of Georgia. The mission was expanded in 1943, and it became a four-year college and assumed the name Albany State College. In 1981 the college offered its first graduate program and in 1996 its name was changed to Albany State University.
