Representing the Communications office within the College of Social Science at Michigan State University, this position will be responsible for creating and producing communications/marketing related content within the college under the direct supervision of the Director of Communications. Specific job duties include, but are not limited to: assists in the development, goal setting and execution of communication and marketing strategies, campaigns and other publications, including digital content for the college, and/or Social Science units; creates, disseminates and monitors social media content; gathers, composes/produces, reviews, edits, organizes and prioritizes content (articles, video, graphics) for websites, social media and other publications intended for target audiences and key stakeholders; responsible for monitoring social media, developing engagement strategies for social media, including tracking analytics; composes/produces content, including identifying sources of information, researches, surveys, and interviews for newsletters, reports, websites and other publications/promotional materials as needed; Works with faculty to promote research and assist in pitching stories to media outlets; assists with technological enhancements; acts as a liaison with other university departments, including University Relations and other duties as assigned to carry out the mission of the communications office within the College of Social Science, and Michigan State University.
Creates strategies, gathers, composes/produces, reviews, edits, organizes and prioritizes content for websites, social media and other publications intended for target audiences. Monitoring social media and interpreting performance, analytics and engagement on all related channels Works with researchers to promote department research externally on websites, social media, working with the college and university at times to accomplish this Helps with gathering story ideas/pitches to news media focused on research for units, coordinating such work with others on the college communications team.
Minimum RequirementsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Journalism, Telecommunications, or Public Relations; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in public and media relations, composing, editing and publication production, news, broadcasting, and print media, and/or marketing, advertising, and creative services; graphic design; word processing; desktop publishing; web design; presentation; spreadsheet and/or database software; public presentation; or radio production; or computer programming/technology; experience managing content for social media channels; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
