Job Description:
The College of Design, Construction and Planning invites applications for the position of Associate Dean
for Undergraduate Education and Facilities. This is an internal search and the applicant must be a
current permanent faculty member at the University of Florida.
The College of Design, Construction and Planning consists of the Department of Interior Design, and the
Schools of Architecture, Construction Management, and Landscape Architecture and Planning. In
addition, the interdisciplinary Doctoral Program, Program in Historic Preservation and Program in
Sustainability and the Built Environment involve faculty from all academic units, and are vibrant
contributors to the College's academic and research missions. The College is also a leader in online
education with several degrees, certificates and individual courses that further enhance its academic
programs. As of Fall 2024, 1200 undergrad students were enrolled in the College. The Associate Dean
will provide oversight for all undergraduate academic programs and will act as liaison between these
programs and the University's Higher Administration policies and personnel as needed.
The new Associate Dean will oversee all aspects of the undergraduate programs for the College and
will serve as the college representative on the University Curriculum Committee and the SACS
Committee. The college seeks an individual with strong interests and experience in
undergraduate education, curriculum development and innovation, and advising.
The Associate Dean will have a tenure home in one of the College's academic units but will report directly
to the Dean. The Associate Dean is responsible for:
- Overseeing the undergraduate programs, including recruitment, admissions, curriculum,
advising, records management, and graduation. - Working with program administrators within the college to ensure compliance with campus
policies and procedures. - Acting as the primary point of contact for College-level accreditation efforts (such as SACS) and
working with academic units to ensure the smooth conduct of program-level accreditation
activities. - Represent the College on the University Curriculum Committee and SACS Committee and with
coordination of the college's role in the Innovation Academy and Grand Challenge courses, such
as Quest. - Coordinating the college's role in First Time In College Preview Orientation
- Implementing programs to support excellence in the classroom, such as graduate teaching
assistants training and college wide teaching and learning programs for faculty members and
instructors. - Supervising the staff in the Fab Lab, Model Shop, Advising and Arch building IT.
- Working with the college Welfare Officer to take proactive measures to support faculty and
staff welfare issues within the college. - Ensuring that appropriate mentoring processes are in place for all non-tenured faculty in
the college, and working with the university's faculty development program and
other college administrators to support this effort. - Conducting various data projects related to aspects of student affairs as requested by the
Dean and senior Admin officials, including support to the college's units in
preparation for re-accreditations and self-studies. - Overseeing the College's facilities, and maintaining accurate records of space utilization within
them and works with the Dean and other college units to ensure that there are adequate and
appropriate facilities for all college functions. Will be the designated Project Manager for the
college's current and future facilities maintenance and construction projects. - Overseeing the college's IT Group and ensuring the effective and efficient provision of IT
services to all students, staff and faculty within the College. - Serving as a member of the college's Administrative Council.
- Undertaking other administrative duties as needed by the Dean.
- Teaching assignments may be assigned, if necessary.
Expected Salary:
Commensurate based on experience, education, and qualifications.
Minimum Requirements:
- This is an internal search and the applicant must be a current permanent faculty member at the University of Florida.
- Terminal degree in one of the following disciplines: architecture, construction management, historic preservation, interior design, landscape architecture, urban and regional planning or engineering.
- Must hold tenured Associate or Full Professor title (tenured or untenured).
- Focused scholarly work that has led to a sound publication record.
- Administrative or leadership experience.
- Teaching and advising experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD
- Professional licensure
Special Instructions to Applicants:
The 12-month appointment will be made at the tenured/untenured Associate or Full Professor level, depending upon the qualifications of the applicant. The appointment will start July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028, with the possibility of renewal. Review of applications will begin on March 24, 2025 and continue until the position is filled.
