The Pennock-Aquatic Conservation and Ecology Lab is hiring a research technician to conduct research in aquatic ecology and help collect fish, habitat, and water quality data in Ohio stream and reservoirs and perform various lab- and computer-based tasks. This position requires extensive field sampling of fish and invertebrate communities using a variety of techniques. When not in the field, the incumbent would help with the following: 1) otolith preparation and aging; 2) sample sorting and identification of fish and invertebrates; 3) conducting experiments;4) data entry, 5) GIS, 6) data analysis and writing. They are also expected to supervise and mentor undergraduate students with assistance from the PI, analyze data, lead writing peer-reviewed publications, and participate in various lab duties and activities. Opportunities will exist to help with manuscript writing, and/or lead independent research, depending on experience and interest. Experience developing publications for peer review is desired. The duration of this position is up to 2 years with potential for extension depending on funding availability.
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor's Degree in biological or environmental sciences, ecology, or related field or equivalent experience.
Required Qualifications
Two years of relevant experience required. An undergraduate degree in biology, ecology, fisheries, or a closely related field. Applicants must be detail oriented and have the ability to work both as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision. The individual must be able, with or without reasonable accommodations, to lift up to 50 pounds, and work outside in all weather conditions. This position will require substantial time spent in or near water and handling aquatic organisms. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license.
Additional Education Desired
A master’s degree in biology, ecology, fisheries, or a closely related field is strongly preferred.
