GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

UNIT DESCRIPTION:

The College of Natural and Applied Sciences, through its Division of Natural Sciences, seeks a talented physicist for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position, specializing in a broad range of areas, including but not limited to Computational Physics and interdisciplinary fields that integrate physics with engineering, data science, or environmental science.

CHARACTER OF DUTIES:

Teaching forms the cornerstone of this position. The selected candidate will serve as an instructor for University Physics (General Physics sequence), Sophomore-level Introductory Physics Laboratory courses, and Advanced undergraduate courses including Mechanics and Thermodynamics. Additionally, the successful candidate will establish and maintain a research program that addresses regional priorities and challenges. This position offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of scientists while contributing to regionally significant research initiatives. A successful candidate will be expected to start this position by August 2025.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum: Ph.D. in Physics, Applied Physics, or closely related field from a U.S. regionally accredited institution or foreign equivalent; Strong academic background in classical and modern physics; Demonstrated ability to teach introductory physics courses and labs; Capability to develop and teach upper-division physics courses; Evidence of research and potential or established research program; Publication record in peer-reviewed journals; Ability to secure external funding through grants (especially for research universities); Strong communication and interpersonal skills; Experience with modern physics laboratory equipment; Proficiency in physics education technology and software; Ability to mentor and advise students; Commitment to undergraduate education, Interest in Curriculum development; Ability to work collaboratively with faculty; Strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Recent Ph.D. graduates in Physics are also encouraged to apply.

Preferred: At least three years of experience teaching at the college/university level; Experience working and teaching in online learning programs.

Police and Court Clearance: Pursuant to Public Law No. 28-24 and Executive Order 2005-34, applicants selected for a position are required to provide original police and court (Superior Court of Guam) clearances of no more than three (3) months old prior to commencement of employment. Off-island applicants must obtain clearances from their place of residence. Applicants are responsible for fees associated with obtaining the clearances.

WORK ELIGIBILITY:

Section 25103, Chapter 25, Title 10 of the Guam Code Annotated requires college or university employees to undergo a physical examination, to include a test for tuberculosis (skin or x-ray), prior to employment and at least annually thereafter. A report of such examination must be conducted by a licensed physician within a state or territory of the United States and must be submitted upon request.

 

Federal law requires presentation of eligibility to work in the United States within seventy-two (72) hours of reporting for employment. Specifically, 8 USC 1324A requires the employer to verify the identity and eligibility to work in the United States of all newly hired employees. The University of Guam is required to comply with this law on a non-discriminatory basis.
