Job Summary

Changing Obstacles by Motivating Positive Accountability for Student Success (COMPASS) is a multi-dimensional program that seeks to support a holistic college experience for students with extenuating circumstances, particularly students phasing out of foster care, students experiencing financial/housing insecurity, or students in State’s custody, by coordinating resources, training, and support for their entire four years. Using a framework of the Seven Dimensions of Wellness, the program acknowledges the importance of mentorship; social, mental and health support; financial assistance; leadership; interpersonal, social, communication, and relationship skills; academic assistance; and housing in the success of every student.

The COMPASS Program Coordinator plays a key role in removing barriers for students that would have a negative impact on retention, progression, and graduation efforts. The Coordinator is responsible for: 1) the management and organization of a collaborative network of campus resources, local community agencies, and state caseworkers who provide housing and financial support for students; 2) developing programming that transitions students toward independence by building self-reliance and problem-solving abilities; 3) building strong communication partnerships with academic affairs to ensure that out-of-classroom challenges do not impede academic progress; 4) serving as the point of contact for students as they navigate through their academic experience; 5) and providing leadership for COMPASS staff and volunteers.
