Our West Campus is located at 2400 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA 31707. Our East Campus is located at 504 College Drive, Albany, GA 31705. The Human Resources office for both campuses is located on the West Campus in Building K, Suite 111.

Job Summary

The Coordinator of Academic Advising provides essential support to the Director of Advising in the development, implementation, and management of the academic advising program. This position is integral to organizing and coordinating various administrative and operational aspects related to academic advising, ensuring a seamless and efficient advising experience for students.

The Coordinator will collaborate closely with academic advisors, faculty, and other campus departments to enhance the student-centered advising model. This role involves providing administrative support to the Advising Center staff and students, assisting with data entry and process management, coordinating meetings and events, and maintaining the Advising Center's webpage. The Coordinator will also assist with room scheduling and other tasks as assigned.

This position requires some evening, weekend, and extended hour work at peak times during the academic season.

Responsibilities
  • Serves on committees as directed and attends appropriate professional meetings.

  • Seamlessly transitions students from Advisor I to Advisor II or to their appropriate department and ensures students have an assigned advisor in Banner.

  • Assists in the planning, development, and promotion of ongoing professional staff development, including teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Supervises :student office staff as delegated by the director, including scheduling student workers, planning and implementing training, and managing regular staff meetings and communications to ensure full coverage of the advising center phone and front desk.

  • Convenes campus-wide Academic Advisor meetings and manages the Academic Advising listserve.

  • Assists in managing room reservations for advising activities and events.

  • Provides administrative support, including data entry, managing advising schedules, budget and procurement forms, and maintaining accurate records.

  • Maintains open communication with students, faculty, and staff and ensures an accurate point of contact list for each department.

  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through ASU.

  • Responds to internal and external requests for information about the services of the Academic Advising Center, providing excellent customer service in a timely manner.

  • Assists with the planning and delivery of orientation, advising events and workshops to engage students in their academic planning and progression.

  • Supports the Director of Advising in preparing reports, assessments, and presentations related to advising outcomes and program effectiveness,

  • Assists with scheduling and coordinating academic advising appointments and outreach efforts.

  • Assists in managing advising communications, including newsletters, email campaigns, and web content.

  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement by staying informed on best practices and trends in academic advising.

  • Organizes student-facing advising events.

  • Serves as an administrator of the college's student success management technology platforms, supporting advising faculty and staff with entries, reports, and quality assurance.

  • Serves as a design specialist within the advising department, maintaining the departmental website and creating departmental documents, guides, materials, and marketing materials.

  • Connects students with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote their success.

  • Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by the Director of Advising.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in related field with one (1) year of related work experience.

    • Or: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with five {5} years of related work Experiences.

  • Demonstrated confinement to academic advising as a key component of student success, as evidenced by prior experiences, letters of recommendations, and interview{s)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of institutions academic policies, student resources, and support services available to students.

  • Experience with advising software such as Banner EAE Navigate, and DegreeWorks.

  • 3-5 years of experience in academic advising or a similar role within a higher education setting.

Proposed Salary

Salary range is from $38,385 to $50,000

Organization

Albany State University is a four-year institution in southwest Georgia offering undergraduate and graduate liberal arts and professional degree programs, and a wide range of outreach programs to the community. Albany State University is located in Albany, a progressive city of 100,000, on a 206-acre campus featuring impressive new buildings. Both traditional and non-traditional students make up the more than 4,000 students who attend Albany State. They come primarily from southwest and middle Georgia, Atlanta, other states in the U.S., and several foreign countries. The average student age is 24 and about 40 percent of the students live in on-campus housing.

Albany State offers more than 30 undergraduate degree programs, of which the most popular majors are biology, criminal justice, computer science, middle-grades education, business administration and nursing. The University offers six advanced degrees: the master of science in criminal justice, master of public administration, master of business administration, master of science in nursing, master of education in 11 majors, and an education specialist degree. The university also offers the Board of Regents' engineering transfer program and the dual degree program in engineering with Georgia Tech.

Students at Albany State stay busy after class by participating in 59 clubs and organizations including bands, choirs, religious groups, honor societies, several major Greek and honor sororities and fraternities, and ROTC. An NCAA Division II school, Albany State's intercollegiate sports include men's football, basketball, baseball, track and field, cross-country and women's basketball, volleyball, cross-country and track and field.

A historically black institution, Albany State was founded in 1903 as the Albany Bible and Manual Training Institute and supported by private religious organizations. It remained privately supported through 1917, when it began to receive state support and became the Georgia Normal and Agricultural College. It continued to grow and in 1932, when the Board of Regents was established, it became part of the University System of Georgia. The mission was expanded in 1943, and it became a four-year college and assumed the name Albany State College. In 1981 the college offered its first graduate program and in 1996 its name was changed to Albany State University.
