UNC’s Arts and Sciences Foundation exists to raise philanthropic support for the highest development priorities of the College of Arts and Sciences. Under the leadership and governance of its Board of Directors, and with support from alumni and friends of the College, the Foundation works to grow and steward the College’s $1.3 billion endowment. In the recent Campaign for Carolina, the Foundation team raised over $764 million, exceeding its goal of $750 million. The Foundation works collaboratively with University Development and almost every other School and Unit to maximize donor giving to the greater University benefit. The Arts and Sciences Foundation’s mission is to enhance the College by meeting the needs of its academic departments, units, and centers; promoting teaching, research, and service; and supporting the continued development of knowledge and learning.
As a member of this valued team, the Sr. Director of Development and Assistant Vice President will serve in a senior leadership role and will help coordinate all of the Foundation’s major and principal gift activity. This position will be responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of Arts and Sciences prospects primarily for principal gifts and will also work on some major gifts. This position will work collaboratively with the Foundation team and will report directly to the Associate Dean for Development at the Arts and Sciences Foundation. The Senior Director’s responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: (1) working closely with the Foundation team to plan and execute principal and major gift activity; (2) supervising fundraisers; (3) working closely with the Dean and Senior Associate Deans to identify and articulate fundraising initiatives and priorities for their respective areas; (4) playing an integral role in the Foundation’s campaign coordination; (5) developing and/or overseeing strategic initiatives; (6) leading fundraising efforts for key priorities; (7) managing special projects as assigned; (8) working with a College advisory board(s) and/or a Foundation board committee.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and presentational skills required. Superior written and verbal communication skills required. Strong leadership skills required. Working knowledge of computer-related office tools and database management required. Strong personal integrity and work ethic. This position requires a high level of discretion, confidentiality, and ethics.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:Candidates with experience in a university or major college setting and with a successful track record in closing major, principal, and planned gifts preferred. Comprehensive campaign experience is also preferred. Demonstrated supervisory experience of fundraising staff preferred in positions with management responsibilities.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina. Chapel Hill is at the western point of the Research Triangle, an area of about one million people, comprised of Chapel Hill, the cities of Durham and Raleigh, and the Research Triangle Park, home of many corporate offices and scientific research centers. Carolina is about 30 miles from the state capital, Raleigh, and 20 minutes from Raleigh-Durham International Airport.

Sports and athletic programs: UNC is an NCAA Division I school with 28 varsity teams. Carolina Computing Initiative: Beginning with the freshman class of 2000, undergraduates must purchase laptop computers. The University has arranged for IBM to offer computers at excellent prices.
