Job Details
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead the research efforts of Advancement Services by researching and analyzing new and existing donors and prospects for major gift cultivation and solicitation through review and strategic analysis of media, financial documents, files, databases, online information systems, and other resources.
- Work with individual gift officers, developing critical, strategic partnerships to refine and work their portfolios with a focus on proposal movement.
- In conjunction with the Director, facilitate prospect development and assignments by ensuring portfolios have a balanced and viable collection of prospects; analyze team and division prospect trends and capacity.
- Identifying the needs and goals of future outreach and engagement efforts for purposes of prospect lists through database queries; review and analysis of internal and external data sets; and individual research to meet the objectives of outreach efforts.
- Key partner in developing strategies that inform cultivation and solicitation of major and principal gift prospects.
- Develop prospect pools for engagement activity across geographies, industries or constituent demographics.
- Responsible for maintaining the prospect management system. Aid in the tracking and management of gift officer’s portfolio assignments in Advance; actively participate in routine portfolio review sessions.
- Conduct wealth data screenings on current and potential donors; analyze and disseminate screening results as required.
- Field requests for assigning, redistributing, or removing assignments from gift officers. Provide proactive and reactive research profiles offered by the department, especially in support of gift officers and University’s leadership.
- Prepare thorough, accurate, and concisely written research reports to include biographical and financial information, potential for philanthropic support, areas of interest, and affiliations of individuals, as well as research on corporations and foundations.
- Utilize reporting software to extract, analyze and manipulate Advancement data for purposes of prospect research.
- Participate in prospect strategy meetings and updating Advance with data from the meeting.
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor’s degree or combination of education, training and experience required.
MINIMUM TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 2 years of donor/prospect research experience. Proficiency with relational databases, with a preference for experience with Ellucian Advance or similar CRM.
- Extensive knowledge of, and work with a broad range of research resources including traditional print sources, fee-based databases, and the Internet.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with all types of staff, including remote colleagues. Experience in building effective partnerships with a variety of colleagues.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills, active listening techniques, and diplomacy. Familiarity with training others.
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks with thoroughness, accuracy, and efficiency, ensuring deliverables are precise and generally free of errors. Proven ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Proficient application of privacy laws, ethics standards, and protocols, with impeccable judgment and discretion in dealing with highly-sensitive information.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
