About the College/Unit/Department:In 2018, The UGA Tifton Campus began a yearlong Centennial celebration with various events to commemorate its 100th anniversary of providing updated research to the community.
Research is done on a wide range of commodities, including cotton, peanuts, vegetables and turf grass, all of which make agriculture the No. 1 industry in Georgia.
In 2004, a teaching program was initiated and it has been growing ever since. College-level instruction on campus is aimed at undergraduate and graduate-degree level study.

Position Summary:The incumbent will be responsible for managing the Engineering Shop and associated facilities on the University of Georgia’s Tifton Campus. The Engineering Shop includes commonly used spaces (welding station, carpentry shop, equipment shelters, etc.), commonly used equipment (lathes, plasma cutters, band saws, forklifts, trailers, hoists, etc.) as well as dedicated work areas for technical support staff. The Engineering shop is used by several faculty, their technical support staff, and their graduate students. During peak periods, up to 20 people may be utilizing the Engineering Shop concurrently.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:- Experience with shop and agricultural machinery and agricultural research including but not limited to:
- Ability to operate various types of equipment, including lathes, band saws, forklifts, tractors, backhoes, utility vehicles, etc.
- Ability to utilize electric and oxy-acetylene welding and cutting for metal fabrication.
- Have or be willing to acquire a CDL
- Experience with Precision Agriculture technologies and associated research including but not limited to:
- Geospatial technologies including geographic information systems (GIS) and Global Positioning System (GPS)
- Variable rate planting, spraying and irrigation
- Use of UAVs
- Automated tractor guidance systems
- Knowledge of maintaining and troubleshooting electronics platforms
- Standing, Walking, Bending, Squatting, Lifting
- Driving as needed to perform job duties

Duties/Responsibilities:Shop Training & Assistance
- Assisting faculty, technical support staff and graduate students with activities in the Engineering Shop.
- Ensuring that faculty, their technical support staff, and their graduate students are properly trained before they use any equipment in the Engineering Shop.
- Ensuring that all personnel using the Engineering Shop are adhering to shop rules, safety rules, maintain the inventory of commonly used supplies and consumables (bolts, nuts, screws, wood, metal, machine oil, fittings, etc.), clean their assigned workspaces, and on a rotational basis clean the commonly used spaces.
- Coordinating activities in the Engineering Shop so that it is operating at peak efficiency.
- Performing and/or arranging for preventive maintenance of equipment and facilities associated with the Engineering Shop.
- Assisting faculty, technical support staff and graduate students with Engineering Shop – related field activities as time permits.

- Coordinating with the UGA Tifton Campus Facilities, Maintenance, and Operations manager about investments for maintenance and improvement of the facility.

- Serve as a department P-card holder.
- Submit pre-approvals to appropriate approvers
- Complete purchase transactions
- Perform allocations and attach receipts in Works
- Reconcile monthly statements at the end of the billing cycle
