Adjunct Job Description:Position Summary:ESL instructors provide instruction in the grant-funded Basic English as a Second Language Program and are responsible for providing instruction in English to adult learners, age 18 and older. The Basic ESL Program offers literacy, beginning, intermediate, and advanced life skills English courses. Classes are offered on weekdays and Saturdays to include both daytime and evening hours. Instructors must demonstrate the ability to use varying styles and approaches that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multicultural workplace.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following are the functions essential to performing this job:1. Plan lessons based on student needs, career and learning goals, and/or the established core learning outcomes of the course.2. Provide student-centered, interactive instruction that promotes communication in English.3. Develop and conduct ongoing student assessment.4. Keep accurate student records, to include attendance and grades.5. Assist with compliance of grant requirements in areas of professional development, attendance,retention, documentation, and assessment.Required Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree2. Experience teaching
Desired Qualifications:1. Master’s degree or certificate in TESOL or TEFL2. Successful experience teaching ESL/EFL/ESOL3. Successful experience teaching adult learners4. Excellent oral and written English communication skill5. Ability to work positively and effectively with students from diverse language, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
