About the College/Unit/Department:Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant provides integrated research, education and extension programs that foster the responsible use of Georgia’s coastal resources by individuals, decision-makers and management agencies.
Our program is managed through a federal-state partnership between the University of Georgia (UGA) and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Sea Grant College Program, a national network of 34 Sea Grant programs located in coastal and Great Lakes states and territories.

Minimum Qualifications:Requires technical knowledge in the field acquired through an apprenticeship, a 2-year degree, or professional certificate. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with building, vehicle, and vessel operations and maintenance.
- Welding experience.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- Experience working in or with the commercial fishing industry, particularly shrimping along with knowledge of safe and effective use of commonly used gear and rigging
The Brunswick Station is located on a three-acre site on the banks of the East Brunswick River. The 16,300 square foot facility includes conservation landscaping demonstration garden, large and small vessels, conference rooms, work offices, two warehouses and several lab spaces. The facility also maintains a dock for research and outreach activities. The station is open year-round and its faculty and staff conduct outreach and applied research as well as offer technical assistance to enable practical, innovative solutions that protect marine resources and sustain local livelihoods. Job duties include building maintenance, environmental and safety regulation compliance, custodial support, state vehicle and vessel maintenance, and support in the organization of events and technical assistance with various stakeholder groups.
This individual will have knowledge and experience sufficient to identify and direct routine maintenance and repairs on the facility’s HVAC systems, provide basic repair services in the event of plumbing, electrical, and mechanical equipment failures, basic carpentry skills, and coordinate maintenance of vehicles and vessels. This individual will also identify when outside assistance is needed for repairs and schedule repairs as needed. This individual will be responsible for working with the unit’s Facilities Manager and station staff to develop and implement a preventive maintenance routine for all electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems at the facility. The individual will also work with staff to schedule periodic fire and safety inspections and conduct routine inspections and maintenance of facilities and grounds.
This position will assist the Associate Marine Extension Director and Facilities Manager in developing and managing Major Renovation and Repair (MRR) projects in Brunswick. Other duties and responsibilities will include, but not limited to assisting faculty and staff with program set up, implementation and breakdown, field work and stakeholder engagement.
- Extensive training or experience in a range of building maintenance areas including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical systems.
- Experience with operation and maintenance/repair of small engines and equipment.
- Proficient computer skills as they relate to facility management.
- Strong written communication, interpersonal, and problem resolution skills.
- High level of professionalism and ability to interact with varying audiences.
- Precise attention to detail and ability to follow procedures meticulously.
- Ability to understand and follow State procurement protocols.
- A strong mechanical ability and desire to learn.
On call for emergencies related to facilities maintenance; outdoor work in harsh coastal environment and associated inclement weather. Intensive and heavy manual labor. Driving to perform job related tasks.
