About HDFS at UGA: The Department of Human Development and Family Science provides leadership in the field via cutting-edge research, pedagogy, and service. We are an interdisciplinary program focusing on individual, relationship, and family development within diverse ecological contexts. Faculty research interests include infancy and childhood, adolescence and young adulthood, adult development and aging, parenting and caregiving, interpersonal relationships, health, and biobehavioral processes, culture, and contexts of human development. We have a vital program with over 540 undergraduate majors, 36 doctoral students, and 20 faculty operating in a collegial and supportive environment. Faculty in the department collaborate with numerous programs and institutions across campus including the Owens Institute for Behavioral Research, Center for Family Research, Bio-Imaging Research Center, Institute on Human Development and Disability, Institute of Gerontology, McPhaul Child Development Center, and UGA Cooperative Extension. Position Summary:

The University of Georgia College of Family and Consumer Sciences is seeking applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor non-tenure track, academic year position with a 90% teaching, 5% research, and 5% service appointment to begin August 1, 2025. For additional information about the criteria for appointment, please refer to the Guidelines for Clinical Faculty Appointment and Promotion.

The successful candidate will enhance the academic and professional development of students in the Department of Human Development and Family Science bachelor’s, dual degree (BS/MS), and master’s degree programs. The successful candidate will serve as a core faculty member in the Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) Master’s program, supervise academic and clinical training of students, and build collaborations with local, regional, and national professional organizations and training sites to provide students applied learning in practica and internships. The successful candidate is expected to play an important role in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, specifically teaching courses in the undergraduate behavioral health science minor and CFT master’s program. It is expected that CFT content must be responsive to standards outlined by the Commission on Accreditation of Marital and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). If so desired, there may be opportunities to teach in the outreach curriculum of the Ralston Center for Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities.

Responsibilities: Teach seven undergraduate and/or graduate courses each academic year (combination of didactic and applied experience supervision), supervising majors, supporting their professional development in community-based placements; liaise with community-based placements to support/develop practicum sites. This person will participate in department, college, and university governance, as well as in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and other relevant professional organizations. The successful candidate will contribute to presentations and publications relevant to the practice, and translation of science to practice through relevant grants and contracts.

Additional Requirements:

Currently licensed as marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and obtained or on the path to obtaining AAMFT-approved supervisor status.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Have attained AAMFT-approved supervisor designation.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience as a relational/systemic scholar.
  • Be working in the field for more than 1 year post-PhD.
  • Have at least 2 years postgraduate experience teaching in person and/or online at the university level and mentoring graduate students.
