Job Summary The Department of Philosophy, Religion and Liberal Studies at Georgia College and State University seeks to hire a Limited Term Lecturer in Philosophy to meet the academic and instructional needs of students in the core curriculum. The successful candidate will teach in the core curriculum, including several sections of a Survey of Philosophy.

We are seeking a candidate who shows demonstrable ability to:

-Teach Survey of Philosophy;

-Design creative, interdisciplinary courses that incorporate primary texts and engage students in the classroom;

-Teach writing and discussion intensive classes;

-Incorporate diverse perspectives including non-Western philosophy.

This is a one year limited term academic year appointment. This position will instruct academic courses and support the department, college and university goals by supporting the academic environment to benefit the educational mission of the University.

This position carries a non tenure track status.

Responsibilities

Faculty - Teaching/Instructing -
Teaching Responsibilities

In addition to teaching Survey of Philosophy, all faculty members also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical freshman (GC1Y), sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses, or in other areas of the core. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty with the desire and ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.

Faculty - Professional Development -
LTL faculty are expected to stay current in their field.

Faculty - Service to Institution -
All faculty are expected to help the department in recruiting majors. Faculty members are expected to attend Department meetings and events.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
A doctoral level degree in Philosophy or related field.

ABD candidates who have finished the coursework for a doctoral degree and anticipate the successful completion of their dissertation and conferral of the degree may be considered.

Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))

Other Required Qualifications
- Strong communication skills.
- Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.
- A minimum of 18 graduate semester hours related to the discipline.
- Demonstrable ability to work collegially and effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds.
