Position Summary
DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Director of Campus Safety, the Physical Security Specialist is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of a variety of both mechanical and electrical door operating/locking hardware, including locks, keys, closers and other hardware, access control readers as well as video surveillance systems throughout the 2 million square feet of campus space. Will need to promptly evaluate and respond to work orders and requests while troubleshooting problems and establishing priorities. Interacts and coordinates with outside contractors when required to make necessary repairs. Communicates with customers and staff in a professional manner.
Typical hours for this position are Monday thru Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm with the willingness to work overtime, evenings/weekends, and be available for call-out work and special events. They are also considered part of the weather and emergency staff and may need to respond emergency issues outside normal times.

Essential Functions
Including but not limited to:
Installs, maintains, repairs, and adjusts all types of locks and their related components in all campus buildings, furnishings and fixtures, and other spaces or equipment that require controlled access. This includes all issues associated with doors. 25 %Assists with the procurement, installation and maintenance of the access control system and video management system and integration of other safety and security subsystems. 5%Works with and supervises contractors selected for low voltage work related to access control or camera systems and/or for complex lock, key repairs and door related projects. 5%Using the CCURE access control software, assists with assigning access rights to employee and students through access cards and programs door locking schedules. 5%Maintains master key system and provides controlled access to related keying codes. 5%Maintains inventory of key blanks, cores, and special-use keys. 5%Create and maintain a preventative maintenance schedule for all doors and associated hardware. 10%Fabricates new keys, replaces broken or lost keys. 10%Works with Director of Facility Services and Director of Campus Safety to ensure proper specification of hardware, keying, access control and camera systems for new construction and renovation projects. 5%Reads and interprets complex blueprints, sketches, schematics, and diagrams. 5%Reads and interprets complex keying schematics and spreadsheets and integrates with the master key system. 5%Operates and keeps in good working order a variety of equipment including hand and power tools, key-cutting, core assembly, and related equipment. 5%Responds to phone, email, voice mail, verbal and written work orders. Issues and tracks work orders and works closely with vendors to assure timely resolution of service issues. 10%Experience and Education Required
High School diploma or equivalent.Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Minimum two years’ experience working with security systems to include service and maintenance across a broad spectrum of access control, intrusion and video surveillance systems. Minimum two years’ experience in repair and maintenance of physical security systems including cutting keys, maintaining and installing locks and door hardware. Required Skills and Qualifications
Must meet background check requirements and complete security training to comply with CHRIA requirements.Must have the ability to follow both verbal and written directions in English; the ability to interact with students, faculty, administration, and staff in a professional and positive manner.Ability to read and understand NFPA and ICC codes and OSHA guidelines, such as Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment safety data plates, fuel/chemical flash points, etc.Basic Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Outlook skills.Operates an assigned college vehicle. Maintains a professional appearance.Maintains a positive customer service orientation and attitude.Cooperates with other college employees and related contractors to achieve the best possible outcomes.Must be able to stand, sit, bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach, and climb ladders.Must be able to work in confined spaces and in elevated spaces (e.g., scaffold, bucket-truck platform, ladders, high-reach lifts).Ability to work with computer systems.Completion of a certified facility locksmith course within one year of employment, if not already certified. Ability to repair and maintain locks, door hardware and electronic security devices including video surveillance. Must be willing to work overtime to accomplish the outcome, if needed.An ability to work both independently and in a team setting.Essential and required to report and remain on campus in response to emergencies and weather events even when normal business operations are canceled or suspended. May be required to work weekends and holidays to support weekend operations or special events.Participate in the on-call responsibilities. Considered weather and emergency personnel.Maximum lifting of 75 pounds independently. Frequently lifting objects up to 50 pounds, employees must get help if lifting over 75 pounds.
