ResponsibilitiesThe Network Architect working with ITS-NCT (Network Communication Technologies) is responsible for the strategic design, management, and maintenance of all levels and aspects of Florida State University’s core network infrastructure. This includes, but is not limited to, the university’s core routing, switching, and firewall complex, cloud environments (AWS and Azure), ensuring high availability, performance, and security across the entire network.
This position is a member of the NCT Architecture team that manages, operates, designs, and troubleshoots complex networks on the FSU campus. The primary function is to manage the campus backbone (core) network.
Management and operation of the core campus network to include but not limited to design, implementation, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting bridges, switches, routers, firewalls, other complex network equipment and critical applications that support the core network equipment, wireless infrastructure, network troubleshooting and reporting software.
Consulting and troubleshooting with non Information Technology Services personnel on Departmental network Issues.
Implementation of Access Control Lists and other network policy enforcement methods.
Documentation of network elements and procedures. Creation and updating written and electronic documentation of network topologies, network elements and the procedures needed to operate, troubleshoot and maintain the network.
Development, testing, and deployment of new enterprise network services. A State vehicle, golf cart, utility vehicle, or all terrain vehicles will be used to reach site premises. A valid driver's license will be needed in order to operate vehicle. Other duties as assigned.
Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and processes pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.
QualificationsBachelor's degree and six years of experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience. (Note: or a combination of appropriate post high school education and experience equal to ten years.)
Must be able to provide a valid Florida or Georgia driver's license upon hire
Preferred QualificationsMust have experience and proficient with Cisco NCS routers and fabric - underlay/overlay routing, Juniper MX router platform, Juniper and Ruckus switching, Palo Alto Firewalls, BIND DNS/DHCP. Very proficient in troubleshooting (and tools to aid in troubleshooting) and understanding of emerging technologies. Understanding and experience with cloud technologies, AWS and Azure. Understanding of wireless technologies on a large scale. 10+ years managing complex LAN and WAN networks, and holding a current CCNA, CCNP, JNCIA, or JNCIP is plus.
