Job Summary

First-Year Guides (FYGs) are student peer mentors who help our new GCSU students transition to college. FYGs attend two to three sections of first-year seminar weekly during the fall semester, assisting the instructors and supporting the first-year students enrolled in those sections. FYGs continue to support first-year students throughout the entire academic year.

Responsibilities

First-Year Seminar - 50%
Collaborate with instructors to support the First-Year Seminar course.

Attend weekly First-Year Seminar course meetings.

Lead discussions and activities as needed.

Academic Support for First-Year Students - 40%
Facilitate student success workshops.

Assist with fall semester registration through a student help-desk.

Assist with First-Year Experience events during Weekend of Welcome.

Connect with students through individual meetings.

Refer students to support resources on campus.

Communication - 10%
Distribute weekly announcements to first-year students.
