Job Summary

The Machine Shop Instructor is responsible for teaching practical skills, safety protocols, and industry best practices to prepare students for success in the field of machining and manufacturing.

Typical Job Functions

As a Machine Shop Instructor, you will teach and demonstrate machining techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols in a hands-on learning environment. Responsibilities include developing and delivering curriculum, enforcing safety standards, maintaining tools and machinery, and assessing student progress through practical projects and evaluations. You will provide mentorship, foster a positive learning atmosphere, and ensure the shop operates efficiently by overseeing inventory and equipment maintenance. Collaboration with industry professionals and staying updated on machining advancements are essential to align instruction with current standards and prepare students for success in manufacturing and machining careers.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years hands on experience in a professional or education setting
  • Proficiency in operating and maintaining various shop equipment, including CNC machines, lathes, mills, grinders, and welding tools.
  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety standards (e.g., OSHA regulations).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Incumbent must reside in Idaho (Currently CEI doesn’t sponsor H-1B Visas)
Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced certifications in machining or manufacturing (e.g., NIMS, AWS)
  • Prior teaching or instructional experience in a technical or vocational setting
  • A degree in Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • Familiarity with advanced CNC programming, lean manufacturing principles, and emerging technologies such as automation or additive manufacturing is highly desirable
  • Strong leadership, curriculum development skills, and experience collaborating with industry partners to align training with workforce needs are also valued.

    Physical Demands:Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.

    Essential functions of this position require: manual dexterity, the ability to communicate, lifting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, stooping, turning/twisting, balancing, reaching, and handling with varying frequencies. Heavy work: Occasional lifting and carrying objects up to 75 pounds.


    Frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 10 - 20 pounds.

    Work Environment:This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.On-site work is essential and regular predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours. Background Investigations:
