Wilmington College invites applications for the position of Assistant Director of International Affairs to begin as soon as possible. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative position that is responsible for working with the admissions and enrollment team members to recruit international students to domestic WC programs and Wilmington College Global online programs. The Assistant Director works with the Chief Financial Officer, Vice President for Enrollment, and the Vice President for External Relations to conduct market research to identify target demographics and regions for Wilmington College programs and then partner with agents in each country responsible for admissions to strengthen recruitment efforts. This position acts as a point of contact for international students and their families both on campus and abroad. This position works collaboratively with the enrollment and online recruitment teams to manage, oversee, and spend the budgets for international student recruitment to both the Wilmington College main campus and online programs.
This position is also expected to manage Study Away programming. Wilmington College wants to increase the variety and accessibility of student abroad programs. This includes establishing and expanding partnerships to broaden international student travel programs for domestic students and engaging with international sports organizations and institutions to promote travel through athletics. The Assistant Director will also collaborate with the Office of Advancement to oversee the budget for the Study Away programs, which includes existing funds such as the Isaac Harvey Fund and Helping Hands. In addition, the position will work with the Office of Academic Affairs to ensure that Study Away experiences are aligned with educational goals and for-credit Study Away courses are appropriately assessed. Finally, this position will utilize Faculty and Staff expertise to provide high-quality educational experiences for students who participate in Study Away and Wilmington College Global.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Admissions:
Visit with prospective international students and their families in country to provide a welcoming and thorough overview of the opportunities available at Wilmington College.
Visit, develop, and maintain strong working relationships with international educators and guidance professionals.
Provide correspondence to prospective students and donors through all channels of communication including phone, text, email, and parent outreach.
Develop innovative recruitment strategies and execute those strategies in a collaborative and team building environment.
Act as the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) Coordinator at Wilmington College.
Coordinate efforts with Admissions/Enrollment, Academic Affairs, External Relations, and Student Services staff to matriculate and orient international students in country and at Wilmington College.
Coordinate with VP of External Relations to develop WC Global online enrollment and fulfill administrative duties for WC Global and act as a point of contact for WC Global students and their families.
Actively participate in and represent WC Global programs in on-campus and community-based recruitment opportunities (i.e., fairs, special events, etc.).
Study Away/Travel:
Fulfill administrative duties for Wilmington College Study Away programing and act as a point of contact for students, faculty, and staff.
Create a webpage for information about and applying to Study Away trips to streamline and formalize student travel and faculty/staff participation.
Create marketing for Study Away and publicize financing options for Study Away.
Work with faculty and staff to train them on policies and procedures for hosting Study Away trips.
Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to provide more Study Away opportunities.
Work across campus to facilitate overseas travel, including but not limited to Study Away, philanthropy, etc.
Performance Standards:
Meets enrollment objectives and goals in a timely and effective manner as outlined in the office policies and procedure documents and strives to fulfill unit objectives and the College's strategic agenda.
Facilitates Wilmington College’s Study Away programming and increases student and faculty participation in Study Away.
Attends and actively participates in all meetings assigned as part of this role.
Serves as an effective team member and coordinates effectively with other College departments/employees.
Knows and observes college and departmental policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Demonstrates a commitment to extensive domestic and international travel in the furtherance of this role.
Qualifications:
Related Bachelor's degree, master’s preferred, plus a minimum of five years of related experience, with experience in a non-profit setting preferred.
Evidence of excellent communication and presentation skills, with an ability to communicate effectively across cultures with a diverse population.
Demonstrated organizational ability, including effective time-management skills and ability to prioritize in a multi-task work environment.
Good computer skills with background in using Microsoft Office and web applications. Database experience is preferred.
Familiarity with private higher education admission and/or financial aid is preferred.
Ability to work evenings and weekends as schedule and workload dictates.
Demonstrated organizational ability and ability to plan and implement projects. Ability to handle several projects simultaneously.
Ability to lead and work with staff and volunteers to achieve objectives.
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid passport and willingness to engage in extensive travel in furtherance of this role.
Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license and a reliable car to travel for recruitment events.
