Job Details
Nebraska Wesleyan University seeks to hire a motivated, innovative professional to join our Marketing and Communications team as a Creative Design Specialist. The incumbent will be responsible for developing visually compelling concepts and designs across various media platforms, translating ideas into graphics, layouts, and other visual elements to effectively communicate university messages. It will be vital to collaborate with various campus clients to generate branded communication materials which maintain a consistent graphic identity for the institution.
This is a full-time, benefit eligible position which requires occasional evening and weekend work includes a comprehensive package including health, vision and dental insurance benefits, retirement benefits, a generous holiday schedule, and both undergraduate and graduate tuition remission among other benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute creative strategies to successfully take communication projects from concept to final execution, meeting goals, budgets and deadlines.
- Conceptualize, design and produce print and digital materials which align with the university's brand, including brochures, direct mail, the university magazine, email, social media content, programs, invitations, and advertisements.
- Proof and edit all designs and monitor graphic integrity to ensure brand consistency and quality across all touchpoints.
- Implement and manage brand guidelines with campus partners, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and package files for printers and other vendors.
- Develop positive relationships with campus clients and vendors to clarify project requirements, prepare designs, and recommend solutions to communication challenges.
- Negotiate freelance design, illustration and photography services as needed and supervise vendor performance together with the assistant director of marketing and communications and others. Assist with university photography needs; provide creative direction for photo shoots and occasionally take photographs.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in communications design, graphic design or fine arts is required, with journalism or communications knowledge preferred. Relevant work experience may be substituted for educational degree.
- Two or more years of design experience, preferably in a higher education, non-profit, or marketing and communications setting.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite--InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
- Strong understanding of typography, layout design, color theory, and visual hierarchy.
- Ability to create and implement visual design elements associated with brand positioning, public relations and strategic marketing to convey the university's unique message.
- Strong leadership, listening, problem-solving and strategic thinking skills.
- Demonstrated team-player with the ability to work with a variety of persons in pressure situations, to incorporate feedback, take/give direction well, and foster a positive, collaborative environment.
- Flexible, detail-oriented, able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to understand the communication goal of each project and express abstract ideas visually.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery.
