Teaching Laboratory Spec II

Job Description:

This position will assist in the daily operations and functions of the Fabrication Laboratory (Fab Lab) located in Infinity Hall and will report to the Fab Lab's Materials Scientist III (Fab Lab Director). The Teaching Laboratory Specialist II position will serve as the Fab Lab's Assistant Director and a representative for the Fab Lab.

-Work with Material Scientist III to coordinate and supervise daily operations of Fab Lab. Assist in development and implementation of goals and objectives. Assist in the development and improvement of lab policies and procedures. Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies. Monitor attainment of objectives. Maintain Fab Lab website. Monitor inventory of current materials and supplies. Make recommendation for purchase of new equipment and/or modifications/replacement of current equipment.

-Develop training aids and/or instructional guides for lab procedures and equipment usage. Instruct and guide other Fab Lab staff on the procedures. Conduct training for students, and faculty on procedures and equipment. Work with students to complete assignments using equipment.

-Handle routine staffing responsibilities for all Fab Lab interns - selection of candidates, training, evaluations, etc.

-Maintain scheduling of events and represent the lab and college at events.

-Fill in for Material Scientist III when necessary and fulfills other duties as assigned.

Expected Salary:

$48,000 - $52,000 per year

Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and six years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards
  • Proficiency in MS Office, 3-D modeling and digital imaging software
  • Proficiency in the use of all available digital fabrication machines
