Coastal Carolina University is currently accepting applications for the following full-time position: Director Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery in the Department Visual Arts/College of Humanities and Fine Arts.


The Director will direct the Rebecca Randall Bryan Art Gallery within the department of Visual Arts/College of Humanities and Fine Arts. This position works in office and various locations, indoor and outdoor, on and off campus. Physical labor may include bending, lifting, hanging, ladder work, use of power tools. As needed, work on weekends and nights as regular part of the job.

Curator II (CE20/61121586/PCLS202400471), full-time position with benefits. SC State Pay Band: 05. Salary range: $38,985.00 (minimum) - $55,559.00 (midpoint). Normal work hours are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Must be flexible to meet the special scheduling needs of the university.

Duties

Duties include, but not limited to:

  • Curates and executes all exhibitions in the RBB Gallery and Cube Gallery in collaboration with the Department of Visual Arts Gallery Committee. Hangs and maintains the student and public art on display in the Edwards Building and other peripheral spaces controlled by the Edwards College. Develops and maintains the Edwards College art collection.
  • Develops and provides experiential learning opportunities for students of the Edwards College working for the RBB Art Gallery. Supervises and trains student workers and student interns.
  • Manages the annual financials of the RBB Gallery and pursues external funding opportunities.
  • Develops opportunities for and maintains external relationships with the community, including, but not limited to, local schools and local museums. Partners with local and regional museums, arts centers, and art galleries to increase the reach of the RBB Gallery. Represents the university, the Edwards College, and the gallery in public.
  • Develops and maintains a marketing strategy for promotion of the RBB Gallery.
  • Qualifications

    Required: A bachelors degree in history, museology, visual arts, art history or a related field and related experience.
    Preferred: A masters degree and at least one (1) year experience in the field or related field.
    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of the principles and techniques required in the collection, preparation and preservation of museum specimens. Knowledge of the principles and objectives of museum programs and exhibits. Ability to plan, organize, coordinate and direct activities in the assigned functional area. Ability to write materials for exhibits and publish findings. Ability to communicate effectively.
