Description

The HR Generalist provides a wide variety of both complex and general administrative services on behalf of the Human Resources department. The HR Generalist will support the daily operations including recruitment, benefits, enforcing college policies and practices, and managing extremely sensitive situations and information which require a high degree of confidentiality and attention to detail.

Travel will be required, as this position will work on both the Gloucester and Cumberland Campuses.

Examples of Duties

  • Serves as first level support by fielding HR questions regarding leaves, HR programs, recruitment, policy interpretation, compliance, employee relations, performance management, and other initiatives.
  • Processes new employee information, including new hire paperwork, employment eligibility documents, and communications with management, ensuring data standards are met.
  • Creates new employee personnel files and other confidential information in a timely manner.
  • Prepares letters, agendas, memorandum, and other materials for distribution. Handles mass mailings and duplication requests.
  • Assists with conducting recruitment effort for all exempt, nonexempt, and temporary workers.
  • Manages entire employment lifecycle for assigned employee group, including Student Workers and Adjuncts, to include recruiting, onboarding, evaluations and offboarding processes.
  • Conducts background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Manages college-approved driver list, working with insurance vendor and departments.
  • Generates reports to track information, review salary equity, develop organization charts, etc. and participate in appropriate HR auditing.
  • Processes all tuition reimbursement and tuition waiver forms, in accordance with IRS guidelines and College policies.
  • Processes all employment verifications and unemployment claims.
  • Assists in processing of Personnel Action Forms.
  • Maintains HR related websites, including staff directories.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of required forms, materials, and office supplies.
  • Represents the College at various career events, job fairs, and recruitment events.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years human resources required. Experience in higher education/public sector strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Applicant Tracking Systems, Neogov preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office with emphasis on Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Experience with a Higher Education Software, Ellucian Banner, Colleague, or Anthology preferred.
  • Must have demonstrated experience maintaining confidentiality

  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff and a commitment to a student-centered environment
