Position Summary: This is a time-limited staff position being funded through a UNC System Office initiative. Continued employment is subject to funding availability. This role has an 11-months per year appointment period.

The School of Nursing Lab Coordinator coordinates and manages the skills lab and simulation center. This position collaborates with School of Nursing (SON) faculty to plan and implement student learning experiences in lab and simulation settings. These experiences are an important aspect of the pre-licensure nursing curriculum and are essential to meet the program and student needs. The person in this position will have a primary presence on the Cullowhee, NC campus working with main focus on prelicensure nursing students and faculty.

The successful candidate will report to the Director of the School of Nursing, working closely with faculty, to coordinate the activities of the simulation and skills laboratory, oversee the operation of low, medium, and high fidelity technology, ensure safe and effective use of the simulation equipment, and maintain an inventory of supplies, equipment, and learning resources. The Lab Coordinator will have opportunities to work with faculty to provide students the opportunity to practice clinical and decision-making skills in a safe environment.

Generalized responsibilities include:
1. Create and maintains a respectful and professional working environment, incorporating active learning, reflective thinking, and a confidential debriefing process.2. Maintain confidentiality of all student, associate, and/or College information as required.3. Work collaboratively with faculty in scheduling the skills and simulation labs.4. Prepare lab set up for lab and simulation learning activities and practice in coordination with the prelicensure faculty.5. Orient students to the clinical lab environment as needed.6. Support faculty and students in lab activities and simulation exercises using low, mid and high-fidelity human patient simulators.7. Work with faculty to provide clinical lab and simulation debriefing and reflection.8. Serve as a resource mentor for remediation of students identified by faculty.9. Assist as needed to maintain records of student attendance and skill performance in the laboratory.10. Collaborate with SON faculty to maintain a safe and healthy work environment, complies with college health and safety policies, practices, and programs.11. Collaborate on ordering and maintaining inventory of all lab supplies and equipment.12. Contribute to lab and simulation budget recommendations13. Maintain lab and simulation equipment, to include upkeep and maintenance schedules.14. Monitor and assures appropriate standards of lab cleanliness, provides for equipment maintenance, repair, and replacement.15. Assist with contacting community agencies to schedule student clinical placements, as schedule allows.16. Collaborates with the Director of the School of Nursing and faculty to accomplish the mission and goals of the School of Nursing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position:

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
