Position Description:

The School of Music at Texas State University seeks an engaging, creative, collaborative, and dedicated teacher/performer to serve as a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Trombone. Duties begin August 2025.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate applied trombone, trombone literature and pedagogy courses, chamber ensembles, trombone ensemble, and other topics according to the candidate’s qualifications and needs of the School of Music.
  • Maintain a record of scholarly/creative activity and make substantive professional contributions to the field of trombone performance.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and service activities.
  • Recruit and retain a full studio of undergraduate and graduate trombone students.
  • Other duties assigned by the Director of the School of Music.

Positions are subject to availability of funds.

Required Qualifications:

  • Doctorate in trombone performance or related field (must be completed by August 16, 2025) or equivalent professional experience.
  • Evidence of excellence in trombone teaching at the professional or collegiate level.
  • A record of achievement in scholarly/creative activity and demonstrated potential for further professional growth.
  • Ability to perform in a variety of musical styles and genres.
  • Potential for success in student recruitment.
  • Experience working with individuals from varied backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University teaching experience.
  • National/international stature as a trombone player.
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
