General Statement of Job
The Network Services Analyst III is responsible for the College's network infrastructure support and maintenance. The Network Services Analyst III organizes, schedules, and directs the activities of a team assigned to specific technology projects and which handles a variety of complex networking and telecommunication tasks.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Manages, indirectly supervises, and provides technical leadership to network services specialists and network services analysts.
- Manages projects, prioritizes and delegates implementation and production tasks to network team members; monitors and reviews their work.
- Ensures local area network (LAN) and wide area network (WAN) services through multiple campuses including installation, maintenance, repairs, and monitoring of network servers, routers, and switches.
- Oversees and maintains up to date data and voice network services including installations, repairs, and routine maintenance work of related equipment such as VoIP phones and wireless access points.
- Recommends network related solutions.
- Manages a 24x7 network infrastructure in collaboration with the Information Technology department.
- Responsible for providing a continuation of service delivery and continuous point of contact for service users and staff alike outside of normal office working hours.
- Ensures business continuity and disaster recovery process and procedure of network management servers and network equipment configurations.
- Serves as primary liaison with Internet and Point-to-Point service providers and network consultants for contract negotiations; ensures that high level of service is provided by vendors and consultants as specified in SOWs, and that maintenance and licensing is up to date.
- Ensures that all network implementations as well as the network infrastructure and topography are properly documented according to departmental procedures, best practices, and comply with infrastructure and security guidelines.
- Keeps abreast of trends and developments in networking systems, communications and security.
- Must have access to a remote working site that is safe and free from interruptions, and equipment and a reliable Internet connection sufficient to perform job duties remotely as required.
- Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Maintenance, Networking, or Information Technology related field is required
- At least four (4) years of work experience in networking required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong background in personal computers and networking, Windows Operating Systems, TCP/IP, and VoIP.
- Proficiency working with networking routers, switches, firewalls, VPN, wireless access points, fiber optics and Ethernet cables, and other related equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
- Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
- Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse, multi-cultural college population.
- Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, employees, managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Security Sensitive position: all applicants are subject to a criminal background check under South Texas College policy.
- In addition, subject to a federal background check.
- Must have or qualify for a valid Texas driver's license and proof of liability insurance.
- Current Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
Physical Requirements
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
- Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.
- Perceiving attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature or texture by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.
- Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
- Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
- Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make the discrimination in sound.
- Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
- Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately and concisely.
- Standing particularly for sustained periods of time.
- Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
- Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading.
- Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
