The mission of the DU Health & Counseling Center ("the HCC", www.du.edu/hcc) is to enhance overall student well-being and success through inclusive physical and mental healthcare, prevention, education, advocacy, and recovery support services. Among its six departments, the HCC includes an on-campus medical and counseling clinic open 8am-5pm M-F, with evening hours until 7pm two evenings a week when quarter classes are in session. The HCC offers confidential medical care, mental health counseling, and psychiatric services designed to help students with mental health concerns that may be affecting their quality of life and ability to learn. Our providers include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors, physicians, physician assistants, nurses, and nurse practitioners from diverse cultural and clinical backgrounds. HCC providers value students in all of their individuality and are committed to providing integrated care to all people with respect and sensitivity.

Position Summary

The Psychiatry team at the HCC provides evaluation and medication management for complex students' mental health needs. This role provides diagnostic and pharmacologic treatment to students, including prescribing and monitoring medication for psychiatric illnesses as well as educating students about their illness and medication. In addition, Psychiatrists provide consultation services to, and collaborate with staff across the HCC including counselor/therapists and medical clinicians, to ensure continuity of care for each student that utilizes our services. After-hours work and coverage for the second psychiatrist as needed.

When needed, this position will also assist with the management of psychiatric emergencies.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Required Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O. with current CO license, with 3 - 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge and use of an electronic health record management system and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, with knowledge and sensitivities appropriate to working with a diverse, young adult population.

Preferred Qualifications

• Interest in and concern for health problems encountered in a campus community, including medical and mental health issues and areas where they intersect.
• Special expertise in key areas of risk in a college population, such as suicide, substance use, and disordered eating.
• Knowledge of non-pharmacologically based interventions for mental health, and recognition of when and how they should be integrated into a treatment plan.
• Ability to coordinate with colleagues to maintain continuity of patient care and ensure the appropriate management and treatment of medical problems when not physically present at the health center.

Work Schedule

This position is a contracted position that runs the annual DU academic year (July 1 - June 30) and will work between 800-900 hours per academic year with the majority of the hours during periods where classes are in session.

Hourly Range

Due to the Colorado Medical Practices Act, this is a contracted hourly paid position.

The hourly range for this position is $180-$195 per hour based on experience and qualifications.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
