Educational and Experience Requirement:Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field; Master’s degree preferred. Six years’ experience in advising, counseling, recruiting, education administration, graduate education, distance education, marketing, promotion, or a related area. Experience working with graduate students preferred. Knowledge of Sam Houston State University’s student recruitment activities, admissions policies, and university procedures would be helpful.
Nature & Purpose of Position:To create and implement long-term strategy for college recruiting activities and graduate programs. To provide thorough academic advisement to graduate students, information to potential students, and guidance in creating efficient and effective scheduling of graduate, online, and off-campus courses. Develop goals and objectives in alignment with college’s strategic plan.
Primary Responsibilities:Responsible for recruiting and retaining graduate, online, and off-campus students. Duties may include, but are not limited to: coordinates the promotion of graduate programs and distance learning; communicates with prospective graduate, online, and off-campus students; academic advising of graduate students; coordinates the scheduling of undergraduate, graduate, online, and off-campus (The University Center, University Park, etc.) courses. Maintains related webpages. Trains and evaluates staff. Coordinates hiring graduate assistants. Participates in activities involving the projection of the university’s image to the public. Assists graduate and online students’ transition into the university. Acts as a college liaison with the Office of Graduate Studies. Coordinates graduate student organizations. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Other Specifications:Assist in implementing all phases of graduate, online, and off-campus recruiting. Requires excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills. May require working occasionally some evenings and/or weekends. Regular and important contacts with prospective, current, and former students; faculty, staff, administration, college counselors, and outside university representatives.
This position may be designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA).
Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
