Situated on the campus of The University of Oklahoma at Tulsa, the Early Childhood Education Institute (ECEI) is an applied research center focused on understanding and advancing access and opportunity for young children and families. Our team of researchers engages in research-practice partnerships, bringing expertise in early care and education, early childhood workforce, and cutting-edge approaches to leveraging longitudinal data to examine practices and policies that lead to thriving children, families, and communities. We partner with community agencies and researchers from affiliated fields to infuse multiple and interdisciplinary perspectives.
POSITION INFORMATION:
We are searching for a full-time Research Associate to work on two grants related to air quality in early childhood programs and the impact of climate change on rural early childhood programs. For these projects, the Research Associate will work with participating early childhood programs participating in our OK-AIR study, along with programs selected to participate in the climate change project. Duties include recruiting programs and families, obtaining consents from staff and families, collecting survey and administrative data, conducting focus groups, teaching climate related curriculum to teachers and children in selected programs, and assist the PI and project director with all other project related duties.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Data Collection. Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects. Develops expertise in a variety of assessment and observation tools, for both children and early childhood programs. Maintains reliability on all assessment and observation tools.
- Record Keeping. Keeps record of information obtained during data collection, using multiple databases of information, hard files, etc. Scores assessments, enters data, proofs, and checks data entry. Follows standard and project protocols for data entry, scoring, and checking.
- Collaboration. Collaborates with project staff, ECEI staff, early childhood faculty, program staff, and other program partners or researchers as needed. Participates on vertical team or teams. Works closely with Project Director to manage time and work load.
- Report Preparation. May assist with preparation of various reports containing descriptive, analytical, and evaluative content that may be submitted for publication or to program partners.
- Literature Research. May conduct literature searches and reviews.
- Data Analysis. May conduct preliminary analyses of data. Interpret, draws conclusions, and discusses with Project Director or Principal Investigator.
- Material Presentation. May present research material to fellow researchers, supervisors, Leadership Team, and outside agencies/partners as needed.
Job Location
Qualifications:
Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Child Development, Early Childhood, Psychology, or related field required, AND:
- At least 24 months of documented experience in research, early childhood, or social services required.
Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months experience in lieu of the Bachelor's degree for a total of 72 months of experience.
Knowledge ,Skills, & Abilities:
- Strong computer skills in Excel, Access, Qualtrics, and other research data management programs required.
- Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills; effective oral/written communication skills required.
- Familiarity with child assessments and/or classroom observations preferred.
- Must be able to travel overnight occasionally for tasks related to data collection, training, or presentations.
