Description:Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean for Career Services, the Director of Career and Professional Development advises students on matters relating to internships, fellowships, their careers, and employment opportunities. Evening hours are occasionally required.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides general career and professional development coaching, including student preparation for legal employment.
- Reviews and edits students’ resumes and cover letters.
- Identifies employment opportunities in the private and public sectors for students and alumni.
- Prepares resource materials for students regarding career related topics.
- Participates in career fairs for employers to recruit Hofstra students.
- Organizes career, professional development, and job-search related programs for students.
- Develops and maintains close working relationships with public and private sector employers.
- The position will require attendance at events on Long Island and in New York City and evening hours are occasionally required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- A J.D. degree is required.
- Minimum of three years practicing law.
- Excellent organizational, written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a larger student services team.
- Strong attention to detail in the review of students’ documents.
- Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Strong presentation skills necessary.
- Prior legal coaching or career marketing experience preferred.
- Advanced computing skills, including use of social media.
