Job SummaryThe Department of Art invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Graphic Design. Teaching load is three courses per semester with some sections that may be combined. Duties include introductory courses, courses in the candidate's areas of expertise, senior capstone supervision, and expectations for research and service. Special consideration will be given to applicants with a global perspective in their teaching, art work, and/or research. Opportunities for curriculum development and additional support through funding for art creation, research, professional research leave (i.e. sabbatical), student assistantships, study abroad, and summer teaching are available.

Teaching Responsibilities

Teaching responsiblities will include Core and foundational courses, along with graphic design courses spanning from introductory, to advanced levels. The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load while maintaining an active creative research agenda and service to the department, college, and university.
The primary purpose of this position is to teach courses and provide expertise within the academic discipline. All Georgia College faculty share the responsibility of teaching our core curriculum and providing foundation courses for majors and non-majors alike. To carry out our public liberal arts mission, we seek faculty who prioritize and have the ability to engage students as they launch their intellectual journey.
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college and university mission by providing service to the institution.
This faculty member will also contribute to the Georgia College core curriculum by teaching topical first-year (GC1Y) or sophomore seminar (GC2Y) courses, and/or Core courses in Art Appreciation.
Faculty - Scholarship and Creative Activity -
All faculty are expected to stay current in their field, develop within the profession, and produce creative and/or scholarly work.
Examples of professional development, scholarship, and creative activity and scholarly work may include:
- Academic Publications
- Commercial product applications
- Exhibitions
- Presentations at professional meetings
- Current work in circulation or in progress
- Grants received or applied for
- Membership and participation in professional organizations
- Other professional service of development activities
Ability to develop and demonstrate knowledge of current philosophies, practices and theories related to the academic discipline.
Faculty - Service to Institution -
All faculty are expected to support the advancement of the department, college and university mission by providing service to the institution. Service may be at the department, college, university, community and disciplinary level. Duties include service on college-level and university-level committees, mentoring students, and support of department-level outreach activities.
Service to the Institution may include:
- Committee memberships and offices
- Programs directed and advised
- Participation in special programs or projects
- Other service in the institution
Ability to work collegially with others in service to the University; Support the advancement of the department, college and University mission.
Educational Requirements
Candidate must hold an MFA at the time of appointment. Must maintain knowledge of new an evolving technologies.
Must meet SACSCOC accreditation requirements stated in C.S. 3.7.1 (www.sacscoc.org (faculty credentials))
Other Required Qualifications
Proficiency in all aspects of design, including web, print and motion graphics. The candidate must also maintain knowledge of new and evolving technologies.
Required Experience
Graphic Design and digital technology experience is required. We seek candidates who prioritize teaching, research, engaged learning, and mentoring students at the undergraduate level in the context of a liberal arts college environment. We seek a colleague who prioritizes global engagement and the free exchange of ideas in their teaching philosophy and research. We are active in creating an inclusive campus community that values the expression of difference in ways that promote excellence in teaching, faculty development, and institutional growth. We also seek a candidate who is capable of creating a critical and inventive environment in the classroom and within the community.
Preferred Educational Qualifications
Evidence of methodological innovation and creative teaching strategies is highly desirable.

Knowledge of one or more of the following areas: web design, experience design (UX/UI), 3D modeling/animation, or time-based media.
