Job Summary

Duties will focus on the processing of archaeological collections recovered from the Ninety-Six (NISI) site, best known as an American Revolutionary War site in South Carolina, to bring them up to current National Park Service curation standards. These tasks involve, but are not limited to, cleaning, identifying, cataloging, labeling, sorting/organizing, stabilizing, and shelving the artifacts and their associated records. The position will also carry secondary expectations that may include data entry, project reporting, moving boxes, laboratory maintenance tasks, and occasional outreach programming, among other duties to assist the director, curator, and NISI project lead in facilitating project goals and Waring¿s mission and operations. New hires will complete Waring¿s in-house block training program and NISI project training.

Required Qualifications

• The candidate must be a current University of West Georgia student maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average.
• Must be able to work 8-10 hours per week and for at least 2 uninterrupted hours per shift.
• Some tasks may require using stairs.
• The employee must complete Waring¿s in-house collections management training and NISI project training prior to working on curation projects.

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidates with experience in lab settings or having a background or interest in the fields of archaeology, history, archives, education, art history, museum studies/science, computer science are not required, but a plus.
• It is important for the candidate to be punctual, communicate well, work well in a team setting as well as alone, and demonstrate good attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Access and Excel not required, but a plus as well.

Physical Requirements or Working Conditions

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee will stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms.
• The employee will occasionally lift and move boxes up to 30 pounds.
• Duties will also include artifact labeling, necessitating the ability to write small script legibly on often uneven surfaces.
• The employee will also sit, talk, and hear (arrangements can be made for assistance where needed).
