ResponsibilitiesThe Voice & Opera area at the Florida State University College of Music invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Voice, a 9 Month faculty member at the tenure-earning rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate is expected to:
- Pursue a continued professional career and actively participate in performances within the College of Music. Demonstrate excellence in teaching through applied studio and classroom instruction of graduate and undergraduate voice majors.
- Recruit high-quality students regionally, nationally, and internationally.
- Provide assistance and mentorship to students in developing their professional goals.
- Assist in supervision of graduate assistants in Voice. Participate in university and professional service activities nationally and internationally as appropriate.
- Doctoral degree in Voice Performance or a related field from an accredited institution at the time of appointment.
- Candidates nearing completion of a doctoral degree may be hired provisionally on a case-by-case basis.
- Candidates demonstrating a record of comparable teaching experience and creative activity may substitute professional experience with education in exceptional circumstances.
- Record of successful university level teaching experience and proven artistry as a professional performer.
- Strong commitment to the recruitment of outstanding students.
- Proven commitment to creating an environment which contributes to the culture, vibrancy, and economy of the university community and which engages students and citizens from different backgrounds and walks of life.
- Demonstrated record of scholarly and professional creative activity.
- Background in classical singing and provide evidence of versatility and experience in diverse styles, with the ability to teach in classical, music theatre, and commercial music.
- Soprano or Mezzo Soprano voice types preferred.
- Record of successful recruitment of talented students.
- Commitment to advance innovative teaching practices
- Initiative to work and collaborate across artistic disciplines with stakeholders across campus, and throughout the community.
- Ability to attract resources including grants or other sources of support that advance the College of Music.
