Purpose of Position:Have you considered the exciting intellectual challenges of teaching high-ability students at Christopher Newport University? The College of Arts and Humanities is accepting applications from prospective adjunct faculty members to teach individual courses, as needed, in the following areas in Fall 2025 and beyond:
- Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures
- Spanish
- French
- German
Along with demonstrated ability for excellent teaching, candidates must hold an earnedgraduate or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in a relevantdiscipline, with 18 completed semester hours of related graduate course work. Officialtranscripts will be required at the time of hire.

The Department of Modern and Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) atChristopher Newport University is composed of 16 teacher-scholars who are committedto undergraduate education and to professional growth. The Department offers instruction in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, ancient Greek, Italian, Latin, and Spanish. Our programs include five majors, four interdisciplinary minors,and MAT degrees in Spanish and ESL. We are also strong supporters of studyabroad: MCLL has sponsored numerous short-term study trips and, in conjunction withthe Office of Study Abroad, advises students on longer-term language immersionopportunities. In addition to serving our majors and minors, MCLLhas the privilege ofworking with a significant portion of the student body through the second languageliteracy requirement in the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum. MCLLf aculty memberspublish on a diverse range of subjects and welcome the opportunity to mentor studentson independent research projects.
