Library Services Staff Assistant (Part-Time)
POSITION: Part-Time Library Services Staff Assistant (Staff Assistant): Library Services; Lawrence Campus (45 Franklin St); MCCC/MTA Unit PT Professional Position; up to 16 hours/week, 10-month academic year only (September - June)
SCHEDULE: 9:00am - 1:00pm, Monday - Thursday, 10-month academic year only (September - June)
SUMMARY: If you enjoy helping students succeed, can engage with technology, and are comfortable in a public facing role, then the Northern Essex Community College Library is looking for someone like you!
We are hiring a Library Services Staff Assistant who will serve as primary point of contact in the library during midday hours. You will assist library users in locating books and other materials used in academic coursework, and answer student questions in person, using chat, email, or other virtual platforms. This position will also assist with shelving, collection maintenance, and other library and archives-related activities. The position works primarily on the Lawrence campus, but some time and travel to the Haverhill campus may be required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties for this position include:
- Aid students and other patrons with circulation services
- Answer general questions related to information needs utilizing library resources (catalog, databases, web sources, etc.)
- Provide in-person, online, phone and email assistance to students, staff, and faculty
- Shelving and collection maintenance projects
- Staffing the library desk alone or with another information professional
- Staffing the computer lab when needed, and answering basic technology questions (Office, Blackboard, print/copy/scan, etc.)
- Planning and participating in special events

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Business Administration, Computer Science, or other field related to area of assignment; with 5 months experience and/or training involving area of assignment, which may include college registration, academic advisement, grant administration, budget development, event planning, administrative work in an academic environment, general office administration, or personal computer operations; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Understanding of role of the library in an academic setting
- Customer service experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to assist others in a positive manner
- Strong technology skills, experience with Microsoft and Mac
- Experience working with and supporting a culturally diverse population
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree
- Bilingual (Spanish/English)
BACKGROUND CHECK: Candidates will be required to pass a CORI and SORI check as a condition of employment.
Additional Information:
SALARY: $35.31/hour, Non-benefited position. This position is eligible for all purpose paid leave hours in accordance with the MCCC CBA.
