POSITION SUMMARY
Adapt to new and changing situations and demonstrate a positive attitude. Demonstrate respect for students; understand learning styles and apply understanding to institution-related activities; demonstrate integrity and promote diversity and open communications. Fifteen credit hours a semester constitute a standard load. Course assignments may be late afternoon, evening, Saturday, and at branch campuses or satellite centers. Position is subject to all terms and provisions of the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Teach at least a minimum course load each semester during fall and spring semesters that may include early morning, day, and evening classes.
2. Work closely with other instructors and special programs and services within the college to determine placements, curriculum, and academic support.
3. Participate in course development, assessment, accreditation, and planning activities.
5. Be willing to teach online and/or blended courses.
6. Participate in appropriate departmental meetings and recruitment activities; serve on committees.
7. Assist students with academic advising.
8. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the subject matter necessary to teach the assigned course load and keep informed of developments in related areas.
9. Implement a teaching style and utilize instructional technologies that will best meet student needs and support program learning outcomes.
10. Collaborate with colleagues to address community and Early Child Care and Education workforce needs.
11. Dedicate necessary attention and action to addressing teacher shortage in the region, specifically CDEV students who represent minority groups.
12. Participate and be an active member on the advisory committee for Child Development program.
13. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and learning.
14. Demonstrate strong understanding and commitment to the community college mission.
15. Meet other contractual obligations as spelled out in the Joliet Junior College faculty contract.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Master’s degree in Child Development (CDEV) or Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related with 18 credit hours of CDEV/ECE graduate level coursework.
2. A minimum of seven (7) years work experience in the field of childcare/early care and education.
3. A minimum of five (5) years experience serving families and children from birth up to three years of age.
4. A minimum of three (3) years experience as an administrator in childcare center programs.
5. A minimum of three (3) years experience teaching at the college level.
6. Possess advanced knowledge and skills with coaching, mentoring and supervising entry level early childhood teachers.
7. Familiarity with appropriate technologies for instruction including knowledge of systems relevant to the industry such as CLASS, TSG, Creative Curriculum, ECERS/ITERS, etc.
8. Experience working in and with diverse communities (language, culture, race, income).
9. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.
10. Demonstrated commitment to the college’s core values of respect and inclusion, sustainability, integrity, collaboration, humor and well-being, innovation and quality.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Diverse ten-plus (10+) years of experience in the Early Child Care and Education industry in a wide variety of roles and sectors.
2. Experience teaching at the community college level.
3. Proficiency in teaching online and/or using course management programs.
4. Experience in course development and assessment, planning, quality and accreditation processes, and committee service.
5. Experience in community engagement, working with social service agencies and school districts.
6. Possess a network of industry employers and professionals to integrate and expand opportunities for program students.
7. Experience teaching children who are English Language Learners.
8. Experience teaching children with disabilities.
9. Experience with IL Gateways Credentials and NAEYC Competencies and Standards.
10. English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
11. Demonstrated multicultural competence.
