The Instructional Development Specialist in the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) in The Ohio State University’s College of Engineering is responsible to plan, develop and implement technical course materials in the topic areas of electrification, vehicle connectivity and automation, and advanced mobility, in partnership with College of Engineering faculty and research staff for deployment in the CAR Distance Education program. The instructional development specialist reports to the center’s assistant director and using their technical background and expertise provides support to instructors and fellow research staff to create, maintain and update innovative instructional material using Scarlet Canvas and other media resource tools to support learning opportunities across CAR’s educational programming (e.g. industry short courses, workshops, and advanced seminars). This position will work directly with industry partners and CAR instructors to develop and coordinate course schedules and resolve logistical/organizational issues; develops and manages the process for course evaluation and improvement based on student’s feedback; develops research protocols and manages student enrollment, participation and feedback data; assists with the development and maintenance of data analytics tools; writes reports of course content and delivery results based on previously collected enrollment, participation and student feedback data; provides general data collection and analysis assistance to CAR; stays abreast of current and emerging automotive and mobility technologies, technical developments, legislative and regulatory trends; advises CAR instructors of trends, techniques and best practices in offering continuing education products for automotive and transportation industry, including methods for planning, creating and delivering of professional and post-graduate training. The instructional development specialist will work with various cross-functional teams made up of faculty, research staff, and students to meet short course, workshop and advanced seminar milestones; participates in writing proposals to obtain additional funding in support of CAR’s distance education program; attends and makes presentations to CAR affiliates which include industry; conducts internal and external meetings; coordinates and supervises research staff and graduate students on related projects.
Additional Information:Qualifications:
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
Experience Required:
0-2 years of experience in modeling, optimization and control of electrified vehicles, including hybrid electric and battery electric drivetrains, energy storage systems, electric machines, power electronics; proficiency with engineering software for mathematical simulation (Matlab/Simulink); experience in model-based control and modeling design in Matlab/Simulink.
Desired: Experience with supporting teaching activities and development of material for technical education. Familiarity with research and development trends in control systems engineering, automation and robotics with applications to connected and autonomous ground vehicles, transportation systems, multi-mode transportation.
The target hiring range for this job profile is $18.17- $23.90. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc
