Director, Accelerated College Experience (ACE) Program
Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Master's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Demonstrated experience using data to inform strategic and operational decisions. Five (5) years of full-time related experience in a high school or an Institute of Higher Education (IHE) with at least two full-time years serving as a supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in a dual-credit concurrent enrollment environment as an instructor/faculty member, faculty liaison, or staff member. Demonstrated ability to inspire broad commitment including developing and sustaining strong professional relationships with faculty, department chairs, high school teachers, guidance counselors, principals, and superintendents.
Brief Description of Duties:
The Director of the Accelerated College Experience Program (ACE) provides leadership for Stony Brook University's dual-credit concurrent enrollment program. The ACE program aspires to be a regionally dominant and nationally recognized leader in high-school dual credit concurrent enrollment. The program has a deep commitment to provide historically underrepresented New York State high school students with access to ACE courses. Currently, the ACE program has more than 50 partner NYS high schools, 25 unique SBU courses, and 3,000 students enrolling in more than 10,000 credit hours. The Director reports to the Vice Provost for Continuing, Professional, and Online Education (CPOE) and supervises two full time staff members. Exceptional leadership, organizational, networking, and communication skills are essential to this position.
Duties:
- Program Development & Delivery:
- Oversees academic oversight of high school partner programs and coordination with SBU academic departments regarding SBU academic standards and course comparability.
- Promotes deeper understanding for the value proposition of dual and concurrent enrollment programs in general, and SBU's ACE program in particular, within a broader context of complimentary pathways including Advanced Placement (AP) course offerings.
- Develops new partnerships and course offerings by serving as the primary contact with department chairs of SBU academic departments and the building and district leadership of partner high schools.
- Expands enrollment by increasing the number of SBU departments and courses, by increasing the number of high school partners, and by increasing the (density) number of SBU courses offered at each high school partner.
- Advances mission-aligned vision and provides strategic direction for the ACE program consistent with the SBU Academic Plan.
- Collaborates with SBU ACE Faculty Development Coordinators to ensure appointment and academic certification of all SBU ACE instructors as SBU affiliates, and champions courses, workshops, or summer institutes that support professional development and ongoing certification standards.
- Relationship Management (Community Engagement):
- Manages relationships with SBU academic departments and department-identified ACE faculty coordinator to offer department approved SBU courses with approved high school partners.
- Serves as the University representative on NACEP. Advances the statewide and national reputation of SBU ACE and works to ensure the SBU ACE program algins with NYS, SUNY, and national education policy directives.
- Coordinates with the University Bursar and University Registrar to ensure effective registration and billing procedures.
- Champions early college access and student success in Title One School Districts and leads efforts to provide increased access to ACE courses for historically disadvantaged high school students.
- Policies & Procedures:
- Creates necessary policies and procedures for the successful operation of the ACE program.
- Oversees implementation process of ACE registration and enrollment software, integration with the SBU Student Information System (PeopleSoft), Financial Services (Bursar), and high school site partners.
- Leads process to successfully secure accreditation with the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP).
- Data Analytics & Communications:
- Develops a communication strategy to disseminate enrollment data, status updates, program developments and initiatives, to key ACE stakeholders.
- Promotes evidence-based practices and champions applied academic research on concurrent enrollment and early college experience programs.
- Evaluates program effectiveness through the collection and analysis of program data, identifies problems and opportunities, and initiates corrective action and organizational changes.
- Staff Supervision:
- Establishes a vison for centralized support and coordination of ACE faculty coordinators and high school site coordinators.
- Supervises two professional staff and leads and provides support and direction for SBU ACE Faculty Development Coordinators in SBU Academic departments.
- Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
