Job Description:


Full-time Tenure Track Faculty Requirements: BHCC seeks full-time faculty who demonstrate a passion for teaching and a desire to join faculty and staff to expand and create new strategies for student success. Faculty must be experienced in teaching diverse adult learners as well as be adept in the assessment of learning outcomes and in the use of technology in and out of the classroom. Additionally, BHCC seeks faculty who value advising students and wish to contribute fully to the life of the College. Faculty may be assigned courses at one or more of the College's locations and asked to teach in-person and in the online environment.


Position Description: Full-time Chemistry instructor in the Biology and Chemistry Department. Primarily responsible for the design and teaching of introductory and organic chemistry courses for Allied Health students. May also be assigned to teach general chemistry for STEM majors.


Specific Duties:


  • Teach inorganic and organic chemistry (with labs) in various instructional modalities (in-person, hybrid).
  • Create and implement laboratory experiences for students that facilitate the demonstration and evaluation of learning outcomes in a safe and sustainable environment.
  • Utilize a variety of appropriate teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners and promote students' critical thinking skills.
  • Develop instructional material consistent with course objectives.
  • Participate in determining appropriate goals and objectives of science courses and assist in developing course standards.
  • Use new and existing technologies in the classroom and laboratory to supplement instruction. Participate in the on-going assessment of teaching and laboratory exercises relative to the achieving of student outcomes.
  • Refer students to College's support resources, including tutoring services.
  • Participate in on-going professional development.
  • Maintain expertise in area of teaching responsibility.
  • Work effectively within the department, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills. Actively participate in college governance and committees, contributing to committee work and college service activities as per MCCC Union contract.
  • Comply with all duties as stipulated in the Massachusetts Community College Council Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Requirements:


  • Master's degree in Chemistry

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Doctorate preferred.
  • Experience teaching students and chemistry courses in the Health Sciences pathway preferred.
  • Experience with active and experiential learning preferred.
  • Community college teaching experience and/or professional experience in Chemistry preferred.
  • Experience in using educational technology or other electronic resources in science teaching preferred.
  • Our students come from a variety of cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support they need to succeed. While not required, the ability to read, speak, and write in Spanish or another language is preferred.


Additional Information:


Salary Range: $58,438.00 - $62,960.00 Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate with Education & Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Bunker Hill Community College (BHCC) is a multi-campus urban institution, its main campus situated in the historic Charlestown neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts.
