Job Description:
Reporting to the Dean of Professional Studies, the Kitchen Lab Coordinator will coordinate activities related to maintaining the learning spaces for the Hospitality Department. Activities include ordering supplies, coordinating maintenance and construction projects with appropriate offices, and budget management.
Ordering Instructional Supplies:
- Compile food orders from faculty.
- Place food and supply orders.
- Receive orders, shelve items using best practices for food and consumable inventory.
- Make grocery purchases for specialized items.
- Submit invoices to Business Office for payment.
- Reconcile petty cash.
- Maintain inventory of food and supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and supply usage to reduce waste.
Kitchen Maintenance:
- Coordinate with Facilities for work orders.
- Contact service companies for equipment maintenance and repair not covered by Facilities.
- Clean and organize all storage areas.
- Ensure laundry is complete (with support from faculty).
- In collaboration with Director of Facilities Management, identify cleaning contractor for instructional kitchens.
- Coordinate opening and closing kitchen and bake shop each semester.
- Purchase new and replacement equipment, as appropriate.
Construction/Planning:
- Coordinate with Facilities and Planning team on new spaces (bookstore kitchen completion and vendor kitchen conversion).
- Coordinate with Facilities and Planning team on construction/update needs (e.g. floor replacement in dining room).
- Act as liaison between Facilities and Planning team and Hospitality Department.
- Gain input from faculty on decision-making for new spaces.
- Participate in planning process for instructional kitchens in Vision Project.
Workforce Development:
- Provide orientation to kitchen spaces and supply ordering for instructors in Workforce Development.
- Order supplies for Workforce Development instructors.
- Support scheduling of spaces for Workforce Development.
Budget Management:
- Participate in annual budget development for Hospitality Department.
- Provide input on Perkins and other grant proposals.
- Submit receipts and invoices for payment in a timely manner.
- Maintain accurate records concerning purchasing and spending.
Faculty Support:
- Maintain open communication with full- and part-time faculty.
- Communicate status of work orders on a weekly basis.
Requirements:
- Current ServSafe Manager Certification.
- Ability to receive and stock orders (lifting 40 lbs).
- Associate degree in Business, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Restaurant Management, or related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- At least five years of experience working in restaurant or industrial kitchen with responsibility for food ordering and inventory management.
Position Format:
All aspects of this role are to be performed in person at the Charlestown Campus of BHCC. Due to the nature of receiving food orders, the expected schedule is Monday-Friday 7:00 AM-3:00 PM.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $63159-66376. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate with Education & Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.
