Founded in 1961, Highline College was the first community college to be established in King County and is one of 34 community and technical colleges. THE OPPORTUNITY
Highline College (HC) is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Lecturer faculty position in Chemistry.
This position is also eligible to receive a High Demand stipend funded by a legislative allocation. The average stipend for 2024 is $94 per credit each quarter (average of $4200 annually). The per credit rate is subject to change depending on total number of High Demand eligible credits taught across all High Demand subjects and available budget.
This position is expected to begin in September 2025.Essential Tasks
Professional Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree (or higher) in chemistry or closely related field from an institution with regional accreditation or its international equivalent. Pending degrees must be completed by September 2025 and verified by a letter from the granting institution.Desired Qualifications:We desire a candidate with one or more of the following qualifications. We expect the successful candidate to have only some of these qualifications. If these are not evident in your resume, be sure to discuss them in your cover letter:Higher Education teaching experience in introductory chemistry as identified under responsibilities;Relevant teaching experience;Demonstrated interest in working with student cohorts (TRiO, MESA, UMOJA, etc.) at the pre-college and college levels;Demonstrated ability to use a learning management system (such as Canvas) in an organized and engaging manner;Experience teaching in a variety of modalities including face-to-face and hybrid classes;A demonstrated commitment to supporting students from a variety of backgrounds;Academic advising experience.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
A standard 170-day contract is written annually for the period of September to June. This position is exempt from the overtime pay requirements of The Fair Labor Standards Act.
This is a union-represented position subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement.
