Department Summary

The Center for Belonging & Engagement was established in 2024 as a university initiative to provide strategic support effort for underserved student populations at UNT. The Center develops learning opportunities and provides collaborative programs for students to engage as active citizens and leaders in the community. The Center is committed to cultivating a campus environment where people of all identities and experiences are appreciated and able to thrive.

Position Overview

The Coordinator of Non-traditional & Commuter Student Support is a member of the Center for Belonging & Engagement team and is responsible for planning programs and services associated with off-campus, graduate, commuter, nontraditional, and online students at UNT. While this position focuses on providing resources for these populations, the primary aim is to foster the mission of the Center for Belonging & Engagement, Division of Student Affairs, and University of North Texas. The Center for Belonging & Engagement at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire a Student Services Coordinator to join our team.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Coordinate and develop campuswide programs and services associated with off-campus, graduate, commuter, nontraditional, and online students at the University of North Texas, including but not limited to: Commuter Student Week, Non-Traditional Student Week, Alpha Sigma Lambda Inductions, Family Fun Programming for student parents, and helping UNT Housing promote off-campus housing options to commuter students.

Advise nontraditional student organizations and off-campus programming board. Develop resources, including fundraising, to improve the effectiveness and success of off-campus, graduate, commuter, nontraditional, and online students.

Advise nontraditional students, student parents, and commuter students with navigating campus life and resources when needed. In addition, this position will help with reengagement efforts of students reentering college after a brief or long-term break.

Supervise, train, and develop a graduate assistant.

Prepare and administer budget for respective programs and services.

Facilitate assessment activities that help improve the Center for Belonging & Engagement and services/ programs for off-campus, graduate, commuter, nontraditional, and online students. Create reports for respective programs and services.

Coordinate risk management initiatives for respective programs and services. Promote and advertise/market Center for Belonging & Engagement and respective programs and services to the general campus community.

Conduct presentations and trainings related to student involvement and leadership, along with respective programs and services.

Develop relationships and work closely with other departments across campus (e.g., Transfer Center, Veterans Center, First Generation Success Center, Graduate Student Council, etc.).Serve as part of Center for Belonging & Engagement staff support on all largescale events. Represent the Center for Belonging & Engagement on division and university committees, as requested. Perform related duties as assigned by the Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two years' of student services, student affairs, counseling, advising, or related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Excellent public speaking skills with experience in conducting training workshops. Ability to provide leadership and mentoring to student populations. Experience in networking across departments and programs. Ability to communicate and work with a diverse population. Strong organizational skills and ability to simultaneously execute multiple projects. Excellent verbal and written communication, and computer skills.

Preferred Qualifications

The preferred candidate will possess experience that provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Knowledge of issues, challenges, and assistive services and programs for off-campus, graduate, commuter, nontraditional, and online students.
Knowledge in campus activities programming.
Knowledge about issues related to student development at the collegiate level.
Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Knowledge about student organization advising. Strong problem solving skills.
Strong critical thinking skills.
Ability to professionally and effectively advise and mentor college students.
Strong planning and project management skills.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to work independently.
Knowledge of safety and security precautions appropriate to work performed.
