Position Summary

Applications are invited for an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Visual & Performing Arts to teach courses in Sculpture that serve our Fine Art and general education programs. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching multiple levels of sculpture courses in a stacked format, engaging students from beginners to advanced levels within the same class sessions. Other duties include holding office hours and communicating with department faculty and administration. Note the course will be scheduled one meeting per week on Fridays, 10 am – 3 pm.

Essential Functions

Course Development and Delivery:

  • Develop, deliver, and continuously update syllabi and course materials for Sculpture I, II, III, and IV.
  • Ensure course materials cover various sculptural techniques, historical art movements, and professional practices as described in the course descriptions.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to active learning and individual growth.
  • Maintain the syllabi and course schedule on Canvas, ensuring all materials and updates are accessible to students.
  • Student Engagement:
  • Foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere where students feel comfortable participating and expressing themselves.
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback on assignments and projects.
  • Offer additional support and guidance to students needing extra help.
  • Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Prepare and administer assessments in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide feedback to help students improve their skills.
  • Additional Essential Functions:
  • Orients and maintains current knowledge related to facilities policies and procedures.
  • Keeps the course coordinator informed of all student and agency issues and concerns.
  • Works with college administration, staff, and other faculty members to improve the overall operation of the college and student success rates.
  • Serves as a professional role model for other faculty, staff, and students in the areas of customer service, collaboration, communication, excellence, dress, attendance, and general professionalism.
  • Evaluates assignments in a timely manner. Provides feedback to students on their performance based on course objectives.
  • Adheres to applicable regulatory rules and standards.
  • Experience and Education Required

    Educational Qualifications:

  • MFA in Sculpture, Fine Arts, or a related field preferred; BA in a related field required.
  • Experience:
  • Teaching experience at the college level is highly preferred, including experience gained while in graduate school.
  • Professional experience in the field of sculpture is desirable.

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • A record of published work or contributions to the field of sculpture.
  • Active participation in professional conferences and workshops.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into teaching.
