Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:The Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) combines the genuine excellence of two great universities, North Carolina A&T State University (NC A&T SU) and the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG), to bring interdisciplinary research and education in nanotechnology, in an innovative strategy the is unmatched anywhere. The unique strength of JSNN is a result of the strengths of the two institutions, our industrial partners, and the exceptional talent of our faculty, the interdisciplinary research of their programs, their lived experiences, interests, approaches, methodologies, and perspectives. The University Program Manager is responsible for working with the Dean, Associate Dean, and Department Chairs at the Joint School of Nanoscience and Nanoengineering (JSNN) to manage the operating budgets, which includes state funds, grants, and other funding sources. This involves working with both parent institutions, UNCG and NC A&T SU, to ensure timely and proper use of the funds. This position is also involved in supporting all faculty with grants administration (pre-award and post-award processes). In addition, the person in this role provides oversight with the recruiting and onboarding of students, faculty, and staff, and directs graduate student enrollment processes with specific duties in registration, and student financial support.
- Bachelor’s Degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions
- Excellent multi-tasking with job responsibilities from multiple supervisors.
- Excellent ability to communicate with faculty and staff from different disciplines.
- Serving as a liaison with other offices at a university.

Key Responsibility:Grant Administration
Essential Tasks:The position requires the ability to communicate moderately complex program information outside of the organization as well as interpret program policies, procedures, rules and regulations. It is also important to have the ability to ensure that program policies, procedures, rules and regulations are interpreted correctly in support of JSNN. There is a need to be able to review and approve marketing information and written reports. Furthermore, there is a need to have the ability to develop contacts and relationships with interested parties in achieving program/organizational goals. Expected roles include:
- Research administration for pre-award and post-award activities for all grants administered at JSNN.
- Develops budgets that adhere to the policies of various agencies to which grants are submitted to.
- Ensures that transmittal forms are complete and that all compliance notifications are identified.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date information regarding use of electronic grant administration portals.
- Identifies and determines action items for compliance for example, financial conflict of interest, export control, and other research compliance matters.
- Provides faculty with knowledge to manage systems and processes for hiring procedures through grant

Essential Tasks:This position requires full knowledge of grant program practices, policies and procedures as well as full knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and statutes governing research administration. Knowledge of applicable information technology systems and software related to grant administration is mandatory. The ability to ensure integrity of systems, internal controls and data, including recommending modifications as required is expected. In addition, the ability to apply updated information technology to facilitate program goals and program procedures is needed. Strong communication skills are essential. Expected role includes:
- Directs the management of the budgets (State funds/grants) with the school to support success of the departments and the faculty
- Provides guidance on financial processes based on extensive knowledge of university systems and processes.
- Guides leadership on human resources policies to ensure that all processes are following state regulations.
- Analyzes School’s budget needs to provides recommendations on decisions to be made regarding purchases and acquisitions

Key Responsibility:Enrollment Management
Essential Tasks:The position requires the ability to analyze enrollment across JSNN which is complex due to the joint nature of the School. Therefore, it is important to be able to use information such as budget, space, faculty, to analyze enrollment and recommend appropriate solutions and options. There is also a need to alert the Department Chair and the Dean to the potential impact of trends on projected enrollment outcomes program and makes recommendations appropriately. Expected role includes:
- Maintains oversight of all student registrations for each session.
- Oversees processes to ensure tuition and stipends for students are administered by the respective departments and resolves and challenges as required.
- Establishes departmental guidance on student recruitment processes.

Key Responsibility:Student Success
Essential Tasks:The position requires the ability to coach and facilitate graduate assistants and support them as they enhance their competencies toward professional skills and development. There is a need to manage resources effectively to provide for graduate assistants with opportunities to meet their educational goals and objectives. This position supports faculty perform annual reviews of students, while ensuring that program rules and regulations are interpreted correctly. Expected role includes:
- Implements communication strategies to ensure that all stakeholders are updates on university processes that will lead to JSNN graduate student success.
- In collaboration with department chairs and graduate directors, addresses issues that arise concerning student progress toward degree completion.
- Updates student progress records and provides advise based on departments and university requirements to ensure timely progress through the programs.

Essential Tasks:This position requires the ability to lead research development toward new proposals and programs that are emerging in the discipline. There in a need to have the ability to participate in the development and implementation of program goals and objectives. Expected role includes:
- Provides leadership and a high level of expertise in the grant proposal submission process.
- Interprets information in agency requests for applications/proposals and communicates critical information to principal investigators.
- Disseminates information regarding funding opportunities and changes to research policy and procedures.
