Job Description:

The Associate Director, Capital and Translation Development is integral to deploying and broadening access to capital for various stages of technology and startups at The Ohio State University in collaboration with ERIK leadership and under the day-to-day direction of the Director, Operations and Strategic Development within the Enterprise for Research, Innovation and Knowledge (ERIK) Innovation and Commercialization. This role focuses on both deploying internal capital and also attracting external capital across various stages of technology commercialization, from pre-company non-dilutive funding to derisk university technologies to dilutive funding to advance development and commercialization within startups. Operates within the dynamic landscape of academia, this role requires a blend of technical, investment, and fundraising expertise and experience, as well as strategic planning and relationship management skills to bridge the gap between academic research and commercialization. Ensures actions are aligned with all policies and ensures processes follow QMS guidelines. Participates in short- and long-range planning for the Capital and Translation Development team with Director. Leads a qualified team responsible for capital ecosystems, equity compliance, startup portfolios, grant management, and process development and implementation. Provides guidance and expertise to team, as well as coaching, mentoring, training, and evaluations. Works closely with the Director to identify staffing needs and opportunities for growth within the team. Leads recruiting and onboarding for the Capital and Translation Development team.

Due to U.S. export control regulations governing information, technology, and facilities accessed during the performance of work, applicants must be: (1) U.S. citizens or nationals; (2) permanent residents; (3) asylees or refugees; or (4) individuals otherwise described as “protected individuals” pursuant to Title 8 U.S. Code Section 1324b(a)(3)(b). This position has flexibility for remote work opportunities although the strong preference is for location in Columbus, Ohio with on-site work.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, technology, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 7 years of relevant experience in technology development and commercialization, early-stage investment, related fields.
  • Strong understanding of intellectual property rights, technology transfer processes, and startup ecosystem dynamics.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think strategically, solve complex problems, and drive results in a collaborative environment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business, finance, technology, or related field.
  • 12 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Familiarity with university research environments and academic-industry partnerships.

Additional Information:

The pay range for this job profile is $138,600 - $182,300. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on multiple factors including internal equity, unit’s available budget, and the candidate’s qualifications.
