Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The University Employee Occupational Health Clinic (UEOHC) provides occupational health care services to all full-time, part-time, and temporary employees of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The UEOHC directs medical care for all workplace injuries/illnesses. The UEOHC also provides pre-employment screening, annual immunization reviews, and medical surveillance for healthcare and non-healthcare workers.

Position Summary:

The University Employee Occupational Health Clinic (UEOHC) population consists of university permanent and part-time faculty and staff employees providing occupational health and medical care for (1) chemicals (exposure to solid, liquid and/or gas chemicals – fumes, vapors, flammable materials, pesticides, cleaning products), (2) biological (blood, bacteria, viruses, mold, bodily fluids, animal droppings, plants and insect bites), (3) ergonomic (when strain is put on the body from working, whether from working conditions or body positions), (4) physical hazards (anything within the environment that can cause harm to the body, whether touched or not touched – excessive exposure to sunlight, ultraviolet rays, extreme temperatures, radiation exposure and excessive noise) found in the workplace, including programs designed to reduce and/or eliminate these hazards.

The Professional Nurse/ADV position provides occupational health and medical care under programs like the University Medical Surveillance Program, Respirator Protects, Hearing Conservation, Lead Abatement, and Workers’ Compensation Program to all full-time, part-time and temporary university employees. This position resides in the University Employee Occupational Health Clinic (UEOHC) on Medical Drive.

This position requires extensive knowledge and skills in assessing the nursing needs for all medical programs including psychological processes and the nature of chronic pain in a clinical application, as well as, professional nursing theory, process, practices and procedures for the care of patients in a clinical environment.

This position will promote health and provide superb clinical care along with broad nursing knowledge and clinical skills in the care of patients. It will be involved with planning, implementing and evaluating specific activities directly related to the above programs. This position will have a vision to shape program direction and development, identifying areas for innovation.

This position will research and develop comprehensive care plans for patients integrating new ideas and up-to-date medical information. It has the responsibility for monitoring responses to medication and other treatments, adjusting dosages, and/or changing the treatment plans. This position will be working with 2 part-time physicians. This position will be actively involved in consultations with other providers/physicians both within and outside the UNC system. This position can/will serve an important role for other health care professionals concerning the medical approaches to the evaluation and treatment from simple to complex problems within the clinic. This includes the ability to develop and provide educational and training programs to patients and staff. Because the physician(s) may have multiple patients, this position can make clinical assessments as to the efficacy of treatments. This position will serve as part of the Leadership Team and when assigned physicians are not on-site, position can serve as the medical expert and determine next steps when issues need immediate attention.

This position will participate in short- and long-range planning regarding the clinic.

This requires an extensive understanding of analysis of data to ensure that decisions are made with comprehensive and thorough knowledge of the occupational health environment.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
