The College of Education is also home to the Belk Center for Community College Leadership and Research and the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation.

About the Department of Educational Leadership, Policy, and Human Development
The Department of Education Leadership, Policy, and Human Development (ELPHD) comprises 40 full-time faculty members and more than 750 students. ELPHD advances education through scholarship, leadership, and advocacy. Faculty in ELPHD prepare counselors, educational leaders, and workplace professionals who are committed to improve education—from K-12 schools, to community colleges and universities, to workplace training—through applied theory, rigorous research, professional ethics, and data-driven best practice. ELPHD offers graduate programs in Adult and Lifelong Education; Community College Leadership; Counselor Education; Educational Evaluation and Policy Analysis; Educational Leadership; and Higher Education Opportunity, Equity, and Justice. The department emphasizes exemplary scholarship, teaching, and service in the context of a university education and has a vibrant research culture that inspires and guides students through teaching, advising, and dissertation supervision. Essential Job Duties:

The NC State University Counselor Education program is an inclusive learning community. Our program integrates and operates from our values of inclusivity, justice, advocacy, collaboration, leadership, technology, and community engagement in our teaching, research, scholarship, and service. We have a long, rich history as leaders in counseling and counselor education, responsive to the counseling needs of North Carolina, the United States, and the world.
Established in 1946, with a foundation rooted in developmental theory, school counseling and career development, our program has evolved and emerged as an innovator of justice-centered counseling. A prominent example of our innovation is the Community Counseling, Education, and Research Center (CCERC) of the NC State Counselor Education Program, with the vision of a national model for world-class humanizing— counseling, supervision, education, training, research, and advocacy.
We offer CACREP-accredited master’s programs in clinical mental health counseling, college counseling and student development, and school counseling, in both on campus and online delivery modalities, along with a CACREP-accredited doctoral concentration in Counseling and Counselor Education. We also offer a four-course certificate program in counselor education.
Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare and teach on-campus (i.e., face-to-face) and online graduate counselor education classes (3 courses for the academic year), particularly, but not limited to, clinical courses, such as Techniques in Counseling, Practicum in Counseling, Internship in Counseling, and Supervision Practicum.
  • Serve as on-campus clinical coordinator for three on-campus Master’s programs: clinical mental health counseling, college counseling, and school counseling.
  • Serve as clinical coordinator for doctoral concentration in counseling and counselor education.
  • Clinical coordination responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Site Supervisor training at the beginning of Fall for Practicum orientation and the end of the Fall for Internship orientation for the Spring.
    • Coordinate administration and maintenance of student clinical contracts, evaluations, and records.
    • Maintain communication with doctoral supervisors, faculty advisors, site supervisors, and students regarding clinical processes.
    • Communicate with faculty advisors regarding clinical placement.
    • Maintain, track, and file students’ clinical contracts and records
    • Make sure our clinical program is in compliance with CACREP, NCATE, NCDPI, Graduate School and Licensure standards.
    • Coordinate with Assistant Dean for Professional Education and Accreditation regarding electronic records and system management.
    • Coordinating clinical and internship experiences for doctoral students
    • Create, maintain, and/or update database of clinical sites/placements used by students for Practicum and Internship.
    • Communicate with the internship instructors regarding any documentation, such as contracts, logs, evaluations or any other records.
    • Communicate with students regarding required documentation for Practicum and Internship courses.
    • Coordinate scheduling for supervision involving doctoral and Master’s students.
  • Attend ELPHD department and Counselor Education program meetings
  • Advise and mentor students in the counselor education program
  • Serve on counselor education dissertation committees
  • Participate in recruitment and selection of future Counselor Education graduate students.
  • Collaborate with other programs across the college as appropriate and needed
  • Assist in department and college governance and outreach
  • Integrate instructional technologies into courses
  • Collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., site supervisors) across disciplines and across local, national, and international boundaries

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral Degree in Counselor Education or a closely related area by July 30, 2025.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Evidence of effective teaching, advising and supervision; potential to establish scholarly research and publication.
  • Demonstrated commitment to using emerging technology in teaching (online instructions and others), service, and research.
  • Professional experience in counseling; appropriate professional memberships and identity as a counselor/counselor educator; understanding of the changing nature of counseling and counselor education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Experience with clinical coordination (e.g., clinical placement, collaboration with stakeholders, student/site supervisor orientation, etc.)
  • Professional experience in clinical mental health settings, college, and school (K-12) settings.
  • Leadership experience in the profession
  • Professional counseling licensure
  • Clinical supervisor licensure
