About the Role
The Executive Director, Enabling Services Reform (ESR) is a pivotal executive leadership role within RMIT's Operations Portfolio, reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This is a rare opportunity to lead transformational change at scale, driving the comprehensive review and reform of the University's service delivery model across all portfolios and colleges.
In this fixed-term, three-year engagement, you will oversee enterprise-wide service reforms, with a focus on operational excellence, digital enablement, and the strategic alignment of services with RMIT's vision. You will lead a high-performing team and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement. Your leadership will be instrumental in modernizing processes, simplifying systems, and delivering impactful staff and student experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise-wide service delivery reforms to improve efficiency, effectiveness, and service culture across RMIT.
- Oversee and manage the Enabling Services Reform Office, ensuring excellence in program management and governance.
- Challenge legacy processes and systems to anchor digital transformation and operational simplification.
- Lead the evolution of the Service Connect function to a future-ready state, enhancing accessibility and user experience.
- Deliver authoritative advice and strategic updates to the Vice-Chancellor, COO, and other key stakeholders.
- Prepare high-level leadership papers and briefs to guide strategic decision-making.
- Build collaborative relationships across the University to ensure alignment with RMIT's Knowledge with Action Strategy.
To be successful in this position, you will bring:
- Extensive experience leading large-scale transformation and continuous improvement initiatives in complex organizations.
- Proven expertise in service model design and operating model transformations, with a focus on digital enablement and systemic simplification.
- Exceptional program management skills with a track record of delivering complex, multi-year reform programs.
- High order written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing complex reports and engaging executive audiences.
- Demonstrated leadership capability, inspiring high-performing teams and fostering a collaborative culture.
- A strategic mindset, complemented by adaptability and the ability to lead in dynamic, ambiguous environments.
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
- Significant senior leadership experience, ideally within large, complex environments.
About the Operations Portfolio
The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise-wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences.
The portfolio incorporates the following functions: Data & Analytics (D&A), Finance, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Governance, Legal and Strategic Operations (GLSO), Office of the Chief Operating Officer (OCOO), People function and Property Services Group (PSG).
The portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups. The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT Knowledge with Action Strategy to life. Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.
